It's just  been a few hours after the PS3's midnight release, and while you're at home, either triumphant from your recent acquisition of your new shiny black box, or gnashing your teeth from failing to get one, we bring you updates of Sony's dramatic delivery over at San Francisco, courtesy of Gamespot.

The program went as expected from the sked announced, with the exception of an SFPD cruiser passing by, reacting to a noise complaint during the festivities. At 8:15 p.m. three black SUV's arrived and blocked off 4th street. Immediately after that, several large men in matching black suits emerged from the SUV's, and using their wrist-mikes for communications, coordinated with each other to form a perimeter. Was Dubya in town? Nope - the G-men were clearing the way for Sony's Silver trailer truck as it pulled up in the perimeter to deliver its 700 units.

Shortly after this event, SCEA VP Jack Tretton popped up from the middle of the crowd under escort from two very big bodyguards, and made his way to the truck. He then randomly picked out a shipment box, opened it, reached in, and brandished two PS3 units for all to see. The crowd went wild. After that, workers were seen wheeling in the boxes from the truck and into the stores, apparently being made ready for the midnight launch

Don't worry, Sony didn't miss the shipment - it turns out that the whole presentation was just that - a presentation to up the hype hours before the midnight rush. Even as the crowds and the press were going wild over the arrival of the boxes - all with official shipment stickers, the units had already arrived some time before, neatly packaged and awaiting 12 midnight. The boxes, after getting in the store, were simply flattened out and hidden away. It was a pretty convincing ruse, admittedly, since the boxes all bore the proper stickers indicating their trip from Shanghai to L.A. You can see the images for yourself.
