Same Dark Sector--but not quite

Same Dark Sector?

We all know there's sure been some changes in Digital Extremes' Dark Sector. What we weren't prepared for was the gravity of these changes. Gamespot got a chance at a brief demo of the game and found that "it's not the game we were expecting based on our first look way back when." Hmmm... if that isn't indication enough for you of how much the game's changed, then we don't know what is.

Anyway, they've described the setting as something that's slightly more mundane. So don't expect a Metal Gear-ish futuristic corridors or whatnot in this version. According to DE, it's "to underscore the unusual and exceptional nature of the games new main character, Hayden Tenno."

This Hayden guy, he's not just some character moving about in the game with a mission to complete. Like any real person, with a compact identity, he's got issues, too. Big time. Of course, you'd also have your own set of issues if you've been exposed to some toxic goop, which has mutated your arm into some lethal three-bladed flying weapon, wouldn't you? Oh, and you'd want to give it a name, too. Like, glaive.

Well, those sure are but some of the changes landmarked in this game. And although it may turn out to be a far cry from its 2004 version, maybe that's all for good, as well. So far, the demo seems to make quite an impression on those who have gotten to try it out. As to whether or not it will live up to those impressions, we'll have to wait and see when it comes out in late 2007.

Ah Man!

When I saw the first demo on the ship, WOW! The gadgets used, the gameplay looked amazing. Now we settle for some run down town. I was hooked on the inital video, seeing now has kinda let me down. I hope Im wrong and the game is actually pretty good. This one was a sure buy first, but I think I'll hold off a bit.

Nothing new

A few months, about 6 or so, after the trailer was released some .... what, 2 years ago? They said that the game would be nothing like the trailer. It would take place on earth, or a planet like it, and not in space. And that the only thing they would be keeping from the trailer was the suit - but even that would see changes. That original demo was just that, a demo of what they could do - not the actual game! Why are people acting like this is new-news???
