Sam Fisher vs. Sam Fisher: Splinter Cell PS3-360 comparison shots |
Listed in: Xbox 360, PS3 Tags: playstation 3 updates, Sam Fisher, Ubisoft
Ó
Sorry to stir things up a bit, but everyone and their pink prancing hippo probably already know that PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 side-by-side comparisons are a fact of life these days. Previously, we've had graphical comparisons of Armored Core, Elder Scrolls, and Virtua Tennis, and some time before that, comparisons of Tiger Woods and Tony Hawk.
Today, Sam Fisher's getting the same treatment, but this time around, as seen in pictures (instead of vids). From The Back Buffer (Blogspot), we got comparison shots of the PS3- and 360-versions of Splinter Cell: Double Agent. Quite aptly so, we just might finally see the true meaning of his being a "double agent."
Now, now. Before you guys go at each other's throats, here's a very intelligent comment by Anonymous we found on the Blogspot post, saying that he/she won't decide on either an Xbox 360 or PS3 purchase based on these screenshots because of the following:
- are those screenshots captured directly from the system or from physical digital camera?
- are those screenshots from the same display output?
- I may question the game developer's capabilities of getting the most from both systems.
- I will decide my purchase based on screenshots from Gran Turismo for Xbox360 and PS3.

I will say that I have SPDA on the 360 and know how it looks in 720p, but after seeing how it looks on a ps3 im really really disapointed, it looks as though they didnt really try, sad...at this point I wouldnt take a ps3 if people were giving them away for free

now... i'm not really a fan of the series but i was actually planning to get this one to actually experience what SC is all about(haven't played the prev. titles either... and yes i know it's a stealth game) in good HD glory :)
i thought if bethesda could port oblivion at such quality to the PS3 then why not ubisoft.... but i guess i wrong
and i simply just have to say this... that pic of sam holding that guy looks so much like a PS2 screenshot

WWTF?? what kinda crack are you guys smoking? The right IS THE PS3, not 360. It has the hallmarks of PS3, the light only PS3 does that. Check ALL other comparisons Xbox 360 can never achieve the type of light of PS3.
They say right left in mirror image because behind the screen the Xbox is right and PS3 is left.
I can't believe Y' ALL got it wrong.

i've only had my PS3 for three weeks (just launched here in Sydney) and i've already bought 7 games since getting it (Resistance, Motorstorm, Ridge Racer, F1, Marvel Ultimate, VIrtua Tennis, and NHL2k7... i'll be getting NBA2K7 this thurday plus a couple of downloads like GT HD Concept, Tekken DR, and even that Rub a Dub)... and i've got my PS3 connected thru HDMI to my Bravia... and none of them games are like this... they all look magnificent... no way I'm going to believe that THAT pic up there will be what a game would look like on a PS3.

WTF ?? For your information there will be no Gran Turismo for Xbox360 Gino D.
As far goes for Splinter Cell I'll wait for Gametrailers video comparison and there will be one sooner or later .

Double Agent's gameplay relies on deep blacks and the lighting on PS3 came off as less dynamic in many areas.
It's a trade off. When Sam first drops into the water on 360 it's difficult to get your bearings and figure out the correct direction to swim.
However on PS3 you'll switch to night vision less often because there seems to be plenty of ambient light even in the "dark" areas.
The PS3 versions is lacking some small details present on 360. For example when we first enter Sam's prison cell there is a chessboard on the ground and some scattered belongings next to his bed. These aren't included on PS3.
There are also a few less background characters in the prison and different fire effects.

i have the ps3 version, and when underwater it is NOT so dark that you cant see anything. that underwater pic with the bubbles has the PS3 to the right, where you can actually see what you're doing. i have heard from reviews that the 360's version is very dark, and even the darkness of underwater was commented on.
like i said, whereever the lighter image is, thats a ps3 screenshot

So, once again, 360 come out on top....

"Graphically, the game looks good, but falls short of the detailed display Sam saw on Xbox 360 last year."

"So, everything is very much as it is in the Xbox 360 release, but in terms of presentation this PlayStation 3 version is severely under par. Whereas the Xbox 360 game often dazzled with impressive lighting and a solid frame rate, the PS3 game chugs frequently and seems to be missing much of the subtle lighting that impressed so much last year. What's more, numerous sound effect glitches crop up throughout and cutscenes fail to run smoothly. It's all rather sloppy and lessens the experience substantially."

Either developers are getting lazier or the Cell really is just that hard to code for, and methinks it's the former

now, i love the ps3 but this is just appaulling

inaccurate in every way. these screenshots does not represent either of the systems gfx/display capabilities.
Reply
Give whatever reasons you want, but the framerate is better on the 360, the colours are richer, the contrast is better, and the detail is higher. :|
Reply
And how is it inaccurate? That IS how the game looks on both systems, and if you had IGN insider access, you could download the head-to-head movie these screenshots are taken from and see it for yourself.

It's probably that the engine for Splinter Cell just is not made for cell....however Unreal engine 3 was probably alot better adapted for it....

This has NOTHING to do with power, this is due to extra developement time, and the devs has said this a number of times when asked!

PS3 Sucks

Last gen, the XBox was usually the best version for multi-format games. The GC and PS2 were less powerful, but that didn't hold it back because the XBox was capable of better textures, more polygons and better framerates.
Right from the beginning devs and gamers said there's not much difference between the 360 and PS3 in terms of power, and so far this is being shown to be true in multi-format games. If anything, the extra (and more flexible) available memory on the 360 and slightly more powerful GPU seems to be making the difference.

America is not a continent either.
North America + continent
South America + continent

All the Tom Clancy games look like garbage in my opinion

You gotta realize that the 360 is running 720p not 1080p. The 360 has better framerates in basicly all the multiplatform games.
Although, since the 360 got patched for 1080p a few of the newer games are developed in 1080p. (i.e. Armored Core 4)

The point im trying to make is, both systems are powerful, both have their pro's and con's. Games like this dont prove one console is better than the other.

Or you can just look at the pictures and it's quite obvious....don't worry, your POS console make a good blu-ray player !! awesome...

For some reason people think brighter/clearer is better....but really, it's not, and is usually inidictive of a lesser system using fewer effects...

Really the first one with the hostage sums it all up....360 just powns in lighting, textures and even facial animations....which PS3 has none of....
The guy on PS3 really doesn't look too bothered by the fact he is about to get his neck broken...maybe he figures Sams arm will clip through his neck due to shoddy collision detection, and he'll be alright....
haha

Really now, if some kid kept bragging that he could jump a fence in one leap, and that you couldn't do it even with help....and then when he went to jump it, tripped up and fell flat on his face, while you soared over it easly.....wouldn't you feel the need to point fingers and say "I told you so" ?
