Rumorlicious: PlayStation 3 shipment reduction at Best Buy?

Poor souls. That is the question currently being asked over at Neowin. While still unconfirmed, it still deserves a file in our repository of rumors, so let's see what this baby has in store for us.

There's always been speculation of the PS3's launch day being a less than stellar affair. A Best Buy employee who wishes to remain anonymous tipped Neowin off to a seemingly unintentional leak by Best Buy management. If the report is to be believed, Best Buy may be getting approximately half the original number of units promised by Sony.

Furthermore, the management is hoping Wii, 360, PSP, and PS2 hardware and software sales will make up for the problems a shipment reduction will bring.

That being said, the National Guard is preparing choppers to ferry beleaguered videogame store employees on launch day... perhaps not.

Obviously, this has no factual basis, but it gives that feeling of unease that is always so annoying. Sony plans on getting 1.2 million PS3s out by the end of the year, but any verification of this rumors cuts that down to 600,000. Good news for the impatient ones who picked up a pre-order (or three), bad news for the impatient ones who didn't get a pre-order, and marginally unsettling news for the three guys waiting outside the Best Buy in Burbank for PS3s.

Could someone get those guys a Quiznos and a soda or something?

Hasn't Sony been talking about how production with PS3 is going much much smooth and they are much more certain of them hitting their mark. I'd believe that over what some Best Buy employee who thought he heard something from his manager said.

I'm hitting up one of those 100 unit Circuit Citys so I don't really care too much anyway :P

I just got back from Best Buy to read this article. According to the electronics manager guy they are not too sure how many they are going to get but are informed its 20-35. A large margin of error there but none the less... with me outside the store 24 hours in advance I could pick up at least one of the 20 units.

I don't believe this article one bit. The problem is, you can't disprove this rumor aside from an official press release or actually being there launch day. I would say, stop stirring the pot, the allocation will be fine.

I work at a major electronics chain and if we get the 29 min we posted in our sale paper i will be shocked, they shipped the ps3`s to our store in a sealed container with 1 set of keys that they put in the managers hands. I won`t even consider buying one for myself until after the first of the year, it`s just not worth the extra hassle i`ll play my ps2 till then.
