Rumor: Star Ocean PS3 scanned? |
Ó
Le gasp! Is Star Ocean: The Last Hope losing its Xbox 360 exclusivity and getting a PS3 release after all? If this scan from Famitsu is legit, it looks like Star Ocean is following down the steps of Tales of Vesperia!
It's long been rumored and hoped for - a PS3 version of The Last Hope. And earlier this year, Square Enix insisted that it would remain an Xbox 360 exclusive - which puts this scan under the rumor tag. It isn't all that hard to photoshop the usual Famitsu info box and other elements together, y'know. We'll update you guys once we hear of any official confirmation.
Eitherway, if it holds true, this still spells good news for PS3 RPG enthusiasts. Let third-party game exclusivity remain a thing of the past. More games for more people is a good thing.

o man i hope that's true
Even if that's a fake scan, I'm sure SO4 is still coming to PS3. Just seems to soon to be real, but I'd love it to be wrong here. Still wouldn't scan of a PS3 version boast new features? I mean the game sounds rather average based on some reviews I've read, it needs some fine tuning for a PS3 version IMO. SO3 scores and reviews were much higher than SO4.
It probably is real. Square is just taking part in the practice of smart business. thanks to the number of PS3's in Japan and the number of copies they could potentially push in their home country...
How many copies of SO4 xbox360 did they sell in japan? like 20ish?...
People don't even care if the game is good as long as the 360 looses exclusivity. This game is yet another fail Squeenix is proud to give people. Heck all Star Ocean games are mediocre.
But I still have my doubts on the validity of this scan. I mean with the way SE keeps almost silent on a PS3 version, tells me MS has paid for some sort of time exclusivity. 2 months is a rather short time don't you think? I'd love it to be true probably more than anyone, but it just seems too soon is all I'm saying.
Speak for yourself, I for one think it needs some improvements. Namely the battle system where they nearly abandoned everything that made SO3's battle system so superb. Yes a majority do want this on PS3, not just because they hate 360 and want to see it lose exclusivity. Mainly because Tri-Ace has a track record of AAA RPGs like Valkyrie Profile. Just try taking SO3 on at 4D difficulty, it's beyond any "challenge" most RPGs claim to have.
I would say by today's standards exclusivity to one console is just not profitable enough.
there are only three reasons for exclusivity:
1. The developer has been paid(or bribed, how you call it is up to you)
2. They must have VERY good relationship with either Sony, MS, or Ninty and it is guaranteed it will sell enough just on one console. (MGS4 for example)
3. Other consoles are simply not fitted for the game. (Either of hardware capabilities or userbase. it wouldn't make much sense to bring a Hanna Montana game to Xbox360 for example)
It seems that it's the MS way of things this gen, handing over money to studios for timed exclusivity and tight lips in the time leading up to the release of a PS3 version.
if these are fake that just means it'll happen later, making a rpg exclusive to 360 is stupid cause no one in japan is gonna buy it, the Star Ocean series as a whole is pretty lame and I could care less if this even came out on any console. although ps3 has less rpgs I feels it's gotten the best rpgs, the 360 has mostly gotten fake wannabe final fantasy generic jrpgs
Was it not their original plan to release this for both 360 and PS3 anyways?
its possible it will only be for Japan, I would like to see it come to the ps3 also, but if they do insist on exclusive to 360 then it probably will be just for Japan, tri-Ace themselves I believe said they find it easier to develop games for the 360 than the ps3, but thats old news.
Actually, being the avid Tri-Ace fan that I am, I'm highly positive the PS3 was their first choice. When it was first announced, I used to check the JPN Square site almost everyday. There was the words Star Ocean PS3 in adobe flash fashion under the the Star Ocean section. This was when the PS3 was in bad shape though and I'm sure Tri-Ace wasn't funded properly for the project. That's probably where MS came in. Sad I know but SO games don't have the kind of effect on the media the way FF games do.
with *****bandit, SO2 was an awesome RPG, SO3 was good also but I didn't enjoy it as much as 2, although I found the battle system in 3 much better, haven't tried 4 yet so... that is yet to be decided on my end
Forgot to mention though, no I don't believe this was ever intended to be 360 at all. But that's what MS's fat pockets can do.
SO3 in NA scored great reviews and achieved Greatest Hits status. That said however, I could only see this happening in the same fashion as Tales of V., Eternal Sonata, and Ninja Gaiden 2. It's not enough to port a game that has already achieved some success, especially in North America. Features and improvements have to be made, if they're to expect a port to sell well.
i hope they make it from the ground up instead of porting it. also have a little extra on top of that, like what capcom did with resident evil 4 and the ps2/gamecube versions.
but you do realize how popular the ps2 was compared to the xbox and gamecube, almost every RPG that came out last gen was for the ps2, while with this gen all systems have great user base, so I agree they will add extra content for the ps3 release, but like I said before I believe tri-Ace has mentioned they like developing for the 360 because its easier, which is why infinite undiscovery was exclusive so only more news will tell if tri-Ace will really do a port.
I don't know about when certain devs say X console is easier to develop for than X console. I'm not gonna say it's true to a degree, but how much of that isn't just talk with money behind it? I mean they said that a long time ago without "supposedly" working with PS3 anything. Tri-Ace I 'think' also said a PS3 version wasn't possible and could only be done on 360, but now says it's entirely possible. Also, while you're right about PS2's popularity, however this was a series that was mostly exclusive to PS platforms, and SE has gotten some heat for this timed exclusive ordeal. So beyond Japan, I don't think it's gotten the success it could have.
Just to throw it out there, the 360 box art of SO4 doesn't have the "only on xbox" tag. Nor does Last Remnant.
and the last remnant was supposed to come out for the ps3 since they openly said that it was for both platforms, love how they don't want to comment on that, anyway, its really old news about dev's saying that the ps3 is harder to develop for so it wouldn't be a surprise if they did, it actually got to a point where Itagaki said that dev's who complain about the ps3 being hard to develop for aren't real dev's which was posted here on QJ, and while I do agree with what someone says can depend if they receive money in the backround we don't officially know that Microsoft did (although they might have since they openly did it for GTA, while secretly doing it for Bioshock), and you are probably correct with SO4 not being successful beyond Japan, as you can tell with review's and its sells, so I don't deny that Microsoft probably paid them since they've done it before and received a timed exclusive.

lolz
Well Lost Odyssey is a great RPG, It's a shame it's for the 360. I borrowed my friends 360 for a couple weeks just to beat that game so I wouldn't have to buy a 360. But other than that game I agree that PS3 has the better games.
WHAT THE F....?!? You've got to be kidding me.....
I don't really care, as long as ps3 fanboys aren't like "yea we got another 360 exclusive" which is dumb to say cause the series(before SO:THL) was sony exclusive and even the game itself was meant for the ps3 first. Anyways by the time games like the last remnant and if so star ocean comes on the ps3, many many people who played them on the 360 would be done already and moving on to other games. But chances are Star Ocean is coming to the ps3, it has to cause the series was mostly on sony's consoles and it would be dumb to continue the story on a different console exclusively, not to mention the "only for xbox" stamp isn't there i guess MS cashed big bucks to get the game first(at least I know my $50 a year is being put to good use)
i also think is stupid for SE to have JRPG's as a 360 exclusive when sometimes the 360 sells less than the PS2, the PS3 is a monster in Japan (Wii is a toy XD) and since Japos a huge RPG fans is better to go either multiu console or PS3 only...see what FFXIII demo did...and wait till the full version comes out...it was smart move to have it as a US multi console game and exclusive in Japan...but if SO4 top PS3 it will be great...
Well, when those games do come, I doubt they're going to be JUST ports. Like you said, most people will have played those games by that time. So extra content has to be in order. I'm not a Sony fanboy, but I will admit I'm slightly PS3 biased, not like the turds though that go around singing PS3's praises. And it doesn't keep me from buying another 360 IF I see fit to. So you'll have to forgive those collective "OMG YES PS3 STAR OCEAN", but understand, like you said the series made its name on PS platforms.
Oh and thanks for reminding me you helped make this atrocity happen.
Oh the irony...maybe bandit can learn a lesson about bashing games he's never played
Sony_player, are you high? What are you talking about? I didn't bash anything here and someone said SO games are mediocre. I didn't do the dumb thing and start bashing away at that person personally. No I don't do that, and besides all someone could say about SO games is it didn't appeal to them on some level. But I mean I DO KNOW there are weirdos and nerds who prefer "trolls" and "wizards" and "barbaric warriors" that will say SO games suck (or any JRPG). Or just your casual RPG fan who love solely FF games. But I'm not going to get into that whole mess again, and I'm certainly not trying to impose my favorite games on anybody. But wait huh? Where do you see irony here? Pass me 2 blunts of that stuff you're smoking please.
Oh and to repeat myself, I don't like American RPGs because for one, they look uber generic. Two, they follow a basic trend of "Kings, Warriors, trolls, elves, lizard people, fairies" etc. Three, battle animations are ALWAYS sloppy. Meaning, (for the not-so-literate) that when your dude swings a sword it doesn't animate really, just kind of magically finds its way from A to B without bending a joint. Lastly, gameplay usually centers around typical hack and slash.
Look if it bothers you so bad, go play said game and stop rating me down cause' our views differ, that's weak. Or send me copies of those games and I'll play them (pawn them). I'm not doubting those games have something likeable at their core. But I certainly don't see the appeal. How can a game spawn 6 sequels and the devs still don't know how to properly animate battles? Answer me that please, and I'll take some of what I said back.
FFXI pwns in MMORPGs, thank you (I just like to say that :P).
