Rumor squished: No PlayStation 3 price cut today

In case you were primping yourself up for a trip to your nearest EB Games or GameStop store to buy yourself a cheap PS3, you should know that the rumored price cut has proven false.

There is no price cut today, as previous rumors suggested. Our source kaizer_911 (thanks man) also informs us that the rumor was BS in the first place.

No price cut has been communicated to EB Games or GameStop management as far as he's concerned (and he should know, he's been spot on with these things before). Not that it means Sony won't introduce a price cut, it's just that it it won't happen in the immediate future as they haven't received any info from Sony yet.

Sorry to have burst any bubbles, but there's still GDC, which starts tomorrow. Sony might have a couple of surprises in store for us.

You know what you should do Sony, you should RAISE the price everytime one of these poor dropouts complains. If the little *****s wanted a PS3 so badly then they would have stayed in school instead of dropping out and had gotten a real job. If it werent for the ageism associated with PSN then your console would be the best gaming platform ever made period and would be worth over $4000 easy. Even with the ageism it is still worth at least $2000 so why not charge $3000 and make a profit? Let the little *****ed dropouts play their crappy 360's, there already braindead anyway.

If you haven't realized, we're in a world-wide recession, meaning people have to cut back on a lot of things, including entertainment. Even the rich are making cutbacks; those who finished school. It has nothing to do with being in school or not, I just use that to point out that most people who dont finish school are dumb and only dumb people would pay for a 360. I am not a PS3 fanboy, there are quite a few things I dont like about the PS3 (though I still do believe it is the best out of the three consoles) but I am extremely anti-Microsoft. I am not going to go into detail about why but believe me, if you all knew what I knew about that company you would not look at them the same way ever again. They have been scamming in every industry there in ever since they were founded and that piece of ***** Ballmer (CEO) literally (no joke) is mentally retarded. Dont believe me? Go look it up. If someone is really poor and cannot afford a PS3 then PLEASE just buy a Wii, do NOT buy from that evil company Microsoft. And by the way, no I am not rich. Now here's the funny part, after leaving that comment, I go to turn on my PS3 to play some RE5.... and what do you f*cking know!!! My BluRay Drive just died. Damn thing is out of warranty too. I figured it was going to happen again soon. The first time was after 6 months. Now this time, it's been 7 months since being repaired.

so killzone 2 wasnt that great to move systems not like MGS4 the reason i bought mine. Also sony has no exclusive DLC except for Home but its pretty gay a whole bunch of guys dancing with each other. But still the PS3 is a really good bluray player and i watch all my anime on it so its good for something. Maybe if people purchased more PS3's we get more exclusives i mean come on the ps3 used to be 600 and now its 400 almost the same price as a 360 elite so its not expensive cause people are buying the elites like crazy. If you really are a hardcore PS3 fan you would of gotten one already if not then dont get mad let real PS3 owners and 360 owners battle it out.

I think Sony could be waiting for those 360 fans to try KZ2, and thus want to keep the price up for a while longer as more AAA titles come out. However, I think Sony's marketing guys are doing things completely wrong. As a PS3 user, I know of loads of things the PS3 can do that Sony isn't advertising enough - Youtube on your tv, Linux capability (use as a computer, can even do 3D CAD renderings on it for work), use as a hub to store all your photos and videos and music! and do all of this in high definition, as well as play blu-ray movies. If I had no idea what a PS3 was, and walked into a store, I would walk out thinking it could merely play games and blu ray movies, but theres so much more it can do! In addition, it can do loads of stuff with psp and play tv - with your psp and wifi, you can look at any media file on your ps3 hard drive, play any psp or psone game on the hard drive, and also watch play tv on your psp! I only know this because I seek the info, but most comsumers will be oblivious to all this!

First of all, "you get what you pay for" isn't always true, I mean tell than to the people who bought the Sega Saturn fr 400 dollars when the PS1 was at 300 dollars. Also tell that to the people who bought the Virtual Boy for 700 dollars. It's true, the PS3 is better built than the 360 to stand time. No RROD and can endure overheating better. It has blu-ray which is costy too, and in a few years it will completely replace DVD. Now take those away and the value of the PS3 would be like 200 dollars. Now we see it fits well because there are some things many sony fanboys think hat aren't true about the PS3. One of the biggest lies in videogame console history is that the PS3 has more graphics power. This is because the 360 has a more powerful GPU, better fillrate, way more pixel and vertex processing power, better choice of RAM memory, and its better at High Def anti aliased back buffers. Though a faulty machine, it was built to be the more poweful gaming machine. Now in what is the cell arquitechture better? Maybe not now, but when its full potential is tapped it's gonna bring better performance in games than in the 360 (meaning higher FPS). This probably won't be possible soon, but it eventually will be. Also, with all the graphics power on the 360 it creates a big problem too... it's a very noisy machine and can overheat easily.

In the end, for hardcore gamers the 360 is the way to go. If you want a good console with blu-ray and that will last longer, get a PS3.

There is an NDA until Monday 30. But, YES there is a price cut along with the Bundle, which you all know will be 399 for a 80GB ps3 with Motorstom and Resistance.

Distributors notifying retailers about detailed price have been warned of the consecuences of doing so.

Dont abandon hope :) Its just a week more.

@Justingraziano : Not sure what you're trying to say. Do you realize that the definition of "ageism" is 'age discrimination' (usually used as in not hiring older people, etc)? ...Now, if what you're saying is that their are some childish people on the PSN ...well I'm sure the same would go for XBL (I haven't booted my 360 in so long, I wouldn't know).

....Maybe what you're saying is that, if you adjust for inflation, then even the PS1 probably cost (at launch) 2-3x what the PS3 currently costs (even though it is a far more robust machine). Heck, I would think that the most-expensive console ever was the NeoGeo. When that launched back in 1994-ish, I think the price was $999. ....Anyway, I am 'with you' on the anti-M$ sentiment, although it's hard to say, "I'll just never buy anything from that company." Windows is so pervasive in our culture that it's hard not to buy *something* that doesn't run an M$ product (even many car stereos run Windows CE/Mobile). I did buy a 360 for a couple of the games that weren't on PS3. ...But, with the passage of time I've realized how foolish that was. There's more than enough quality content on PS3 to keep an army entertained. The publishers who are foolish enough to release their product solely on the great overheating wind machine ....deserve to eventually trail off into the great RROD in the sky.

The only models that's getting errors and not reading discs are the launch older models. Which Sony maintenance have stated those are prone to fail due to it being an older model. They replace the machine, depending on the issue, with a brand new "same" model of yours. Just recently my PS3 stopped reading discs due to the lens, and I rang sony up and they replaced it with a brand new current version lens.
