PS3 Sixaxis controller - Image 1

With Microsoft rumored to be working on a new motion-sensing controller for their Xbox 360 home video game console, it looks like Sony isn't going to let themselves be left in the dust.

In the most recent Five (!) Minute Warning podcast, N'Gai Croal and Geoff Keighley talked to EGM's executive editor, Shane Bettenhausen, who talked about Sony's own rumored controller.

Apparently, this new waggle wand from Sony will be a "transforming controller" that will pack "multiple configurations". Call of Duty 5 and Resistance 2 were the games mentioned in connection with the controller.

Resistance 2 is currently slated for release later this year, so if this transforming Sony controller is indeed real, we should be hearing more about it soon enough. Keep checking back here for more updates. You can check out the podcast by clicking on the source link below.

with my sixaxis too. But if it adds features like rumble in the dualshock 3 then I might just pick up the transforming controller too, of course if its real.

I'm gunna need rumble for Mgs4 too because some of the gadgets use rumble like in Mgs2 + Mgs3.

So Sony is copying Nintendo as well. I distinctly remember people criticizing MS for doing the same thing lol. I can understand why Sony & MS wants to copy Nintendo, but it'll fail miserably.

Sony and Microsoft had their ideas before anyone even though of the Wii, so how is any of them copying Nintendo? Also, explain ANY moment where Sony and Microsoft "copied" off of Nintendo and failed miserably. Just name one.

You're just a random troll. Go jump off a bridge or something.

Nintendo invented motion sensing, innovation, and fun with the Wii. All other consoles are copycats if they try to use those things. *sarcasm*

I've had it for about six months, and its worked with most games since i got it. Yet, i'll hold judgment on this rumor. Besides what happened to the rumor of the ps2 waggle-wand bundle?

The PSP flip-screen phone? Or the ten dozen other rumored controller/devices MS/Sony have allegedly made that "copy the wii"...that never turn out to exist.

Well, SONY added the motion sensing feature on their PS3 controller right after Nintendo revealed their Wiimote.

Sony announced sixaxis after nintendo announced motion sensing. You can't add a feature at the last minute. Even Sega wouldn't be that dumb. (and sega is DUMB) If sony announced SIXAXIS before nintendo, some people would be singing a different tune, but most would be like "meh, whatever" NINTENDO REVOLUTIONIZED NOTHING. it STANDARDIZED

i'd probably get a DS3 in the future but only because one or more of my Sixaxis already crapped out but other than that i currently don't have any motivation to get the DS3.

Still, sony had this "magic wand" in design for years now, so they might actually release it one day. But I don't think they will release two controllers the same year. I mean, it took a long time just for rumble, so a "magic wand" won't pop this year, or at least, I'd be really supprised.

Still, I wouln't buy it unless it's really great. Like if it can be used in resistance 2 as a guncon or somthing. But still, I don't think I would buy it anyway. If I wanted to play casual, I'd buy a wii. I'm into hardcore gaming with normal controllers. I didn't bought the eye too, not guitars (but I'd like to have a guitar, lol, still, 100$ for a guitar game.. just not me).

ok i don't usually get involved in this *****, but this is ridiculous... nintendo didn't invent motion sensing.. and the ps3 sixaxis isn't motion sensing... the sixaxis uses a tilt sensor, which if i remember correctly was originally implemented in a game called warhawk on the PSONE!!! so STFU about sony copying nintendo.. and also i have a wii and i don't like it that much.. i have re4, which is fun, ssbb, which got old really fast, and metroid prime 3, which is fun too but replaying it just isn't as fun as playing through it the first time... the only good game i've played was re4, which i could get that for ps2 or gamecube if i wanted (and i used to have it for those two consoles until i got a wii and got this version since its technically the most complete version)...

but anyways back to the point.. my point is that you nintendo fanboys need to plz stfu.. everytime someone mentions the sixaxis to you, you always say "they copied" without even looking into it... here are some important points to make..

1)the sixaxis uses a TILT sensor, not MOTION sensor. the tech is similar, but not the same.

2)the sixaxis announcement was made the same day (if i remember correctly) that nintendo said they'd be using motion sensing. sony isn't stupid.. they know when they have the tech and when they don't, and they wouldn't have made that announcement unless they had the tech.. so sony had that planned for awhile...

3)@kingofdaberbz nintendo is actually failing at this console war... yea they have sold more units, but the games are crap.. 90% of them are party games, 5% are ports, and the other 5% are totally original games... i have a wii myself and i don't play it much.. its collecting dust right now because i just don't find it as fun as other consoles...

4)i doubt sony is working on this... this rumor sounds way too stupid... also why would sony try to make something that might fail when they're starting to make a huge profit now that ps3 is picking up..? we don't want a new controller and sony knows that. we want games and more features for our ps3s, and sony is taking the time to deliver that.

5)if anyone is gonna copy the other, its gonna be microsoft.. they're known for copying ***** and then calling it their own (windows ftw was actually a heavily modified version of the apple OS. learned about it in programming class) i wouldn't be suprised really if microsoft released a motion sensing/tilt sensing controller for the 360.

and plz for the nintendo fanboys, i have like 4 friends that are exactly like you guys.. they don't stfu about sony 'copying' nintendo.. and i have to go into detail and show them specs and the difference between tilt and motion sensing just to shut them up then they say that games on wii are for everyone but its funny because the hardcore gamer like me gets bored of those games really easily and quickly.. wii is NOT for hardcore gamers... so stop saying that i'm not a gamer because i don't like the wii as much as ps3 or something... i dont like mario because he's way too overused now.. and i grew up playing sonic on the genesis, so i'm into way more fast paced games with twitchy controls..

I think this is just a complete rumor. I don't see why Sony would make a "transforming" controller. I mean, wow, it transforms? No, no, no...no...no no..nono...

To the person who asked when have Sony ever copied. Look at your ps controller they copied off the SNES controller and the N64 was the first home console with a analog stick. Also, MS & Sony are trying to capitilize off the Wii success. I can name several other instances where Sony copied Nintendo.

How is Nintendo failing? Their attach rate is exactly the same as the ps3. It's sold out everywhere and the games are actually pretty goo. Also, 60% of Wii games are actually good and devs. are starting to take the Wii seriously. I expect the Wii to start getting AAA 3rd party games by the end of this year to early next year.

This is Sony attempting to copy of Nintendo. Granted, they're copying in their own distinct way (which so far sounds more inventive than Microsoft's approach of tacking on XBox buttons to a Wii Remote), but seriously, its just a matter of fact. Nintendo's new controller design is essentially kicking everyone else's ass, and they're clamoring to copy it.

The point the Nintendo fanboys are making is that Sony and Microsoft fans increasingly MADE FUN OF the Wii Remote for several years here, and now that their own companies are doing the same thing, its "fine" ... or, even worse, "great".

I respect all Sony and Microsoft gamers who say they don't want anything to do with these new controllers, because at least they're sticking to their guns and not being stupid, moronic, butt-licking fanboys.

I agree this is stupid. Why would someone think about (AGAIN) making another type of controller when Dual3 has barely made it's light shine?

go and find a Wii60 little fan club or something

# Sorry Nintendo Fanboys do your HOMEWORK!dustinmyles 2008-04-19 15:04
Sony was the FIRST, to implement tilt sensing tech in the original Playstation for the original Warhawk. ALSO, Sony DID NOT copy the SuperNintendo's controller, they DEVELOPED IT FOR THEM! THAT'S RIGHT! Sony was ORIGINALLY HIRED BY NINTENDO TO CREATE THE SUPER NINTENDO, IN FACT the SNES was ORIGINALLY SUPPOSED TO HAVE A CD-ROM Drive; and NINTEDO later HIRED PHILLIPS MAGNOVOX TO DEVELOP THE SNES BEHIND Sony's back!, because the CONTRACT THAT NINTENDO SIGNED WITH SONY GAVE MOST OF THE CD-ROM GAMES/TECH/COPYRIGHTS TO SONY; and THEN Nintendo, realizing their stupidity, WENT AND HIRED MAGNOVOX TO MAKE A CARTRIDGE-based sysem INSTEAD. In FACT, Nintendo DID NOT EVEN TELL SONY UNTIL THE Consumer Electronics Show of that year WHILE Sony was SETTING UP THEIR SUPER NINTENDO BOOTH AT THE SAME TIME AS MAGNOVOX! And it was this siminal event that LED TO SONY'S HIRING OF KEN KUTURAGI TO NOT ONLY DEVELOP THE 3-D HARDWARE FOR THE PS1, but left Sony with a WELL REASONED DESIRE FOR REVENGE...for in the process of Nintendo's back door double dealing behind Sony's back, Nintendo RIPPED OFF Sony's idea's. My original source for this information was the documentary t.v. show "Game Makers" that airs on G4 Tech TV, in addition to many, many others. Believe it or not, however, if you are too lazy to do the research I've just save your fat ass the trouble; and I know it leaves a nasty taste in the mouth of Ninty fanboys- because I USED to be one (however I'm on the road to recovery) - but it doesn't change ANYTHING; the fact remains that the origins of tilt/motion control is the ORIGINAL brainchild of Sony, AND that the Wii is STILL JUST A GAMECUBE WITH ("BORROWED TECHNOLOGY") A "NEW" CONTROLLER SYSTEM, although there's NOTHING NEW about "Nintendo's" controller, symply "borrowed"/"copied"/"plagerized"/etc..... BEFORE ANY FANBOYS LET THEIR EMOTIONS GET THE BETTER OF THEM, PLEASE DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND YOU WILL LEARN THAT I AM CORRECT! BUT IF HISTORY SERVES AS ANY REMINDER, I KNOW THAT YOU GUYS WON'T LET SOMETHING LIKE THE FACT GET IN THE WAY OF YOUR "INFORMED" OPINIONS...
