Here's an interesting rumor straight out of Sony's official PlayStation site. As member steinmc of the NeoGAF forums initially pointed out, the site's PSN section had posted an advert that implies that their recently announced in-game XMB is being readied for release soon.

Here's the original screenshot posted by steinmc - we circled the caption that hints at the XMB possibility:

Shortly after the report of this rumor, Sony took down the site with the corresponding advert. Given there's not much else to go on regarding this hint, we'll leave it in the rumor mill until we can wrangle up more substantial information. Drop by again in case of updates.

» well...

maybe after the GDC who knows... maybe thats why the update of january of the profile 2.0 wasn't released...

Sony always do this, post it in an "error" and when everyone look at it they quit it from the site... and weeks if not days later they release it... I never saw that in the PS3 scene but yes in the PSP side

» well...

» Friends & Messaging???!

We want ingame music!!! Not that bullcrap. In resistance fall of man we could already do this.

» Its not bullcrap

In game music isn't all that important. What is import is being able to message a friend or read a message without having to exit the game.

It doesn't say ANYthing about in-game XMB... it just says talk to friends while in a game... I do that with COD4 all the time!

Well, yeah, but there are games that don't provide this option, so that is why they put it in as a default feature now.

» it says "say hello anytime you're online"

i cant do that if i don't have a headset and it doesn't imply saying hello with a headset there either because straight after that sentance it says "have a video chat with an eye camera, USB camera or headset"

» Nothing New

We can talk during games and say hello through messaging or with a camera.

» This is news, comon

Even if it were a hint at ingame xmb WHICH ITS NOT, we can already chat in games. We all know it's coming soon anyway. I thiink most likely right after gdc providing they do the home beta at that time to which is likely.

That section was there for a LONG time. Its not even remotely about in-game XMB. I would really love an in game XMB, but that statement isn't enough to go on.

» important

none of this BULLCRAP is 'important.' its a video game console and you want features. thats it. some people need to step back and get things in perspective.
