Think that the news of Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, Xbox 360) going multiplatform is shocking enough? Here's some gossip tidbit that may further make all things Final Fantasy a bit interesting. According to an unnamed source from PlayStation Lifestyle, the much sought-after Final Fantasy VII remake is indeed in the works, and that it will be exclusive to the Sony PlayStation 3.
However, those who are looking for the original, untainted, and blocky version of Final Fantasy VII will apparently also get some love, as a downloadable game from both PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade this year.
The same source has claimed that these developments will be revealed during the upcoming Square Enix August conference or the Tokyo Game Show, which will both be held in Japan. Of course, these are still rumors, so don't get your hopes up. We do hope that we'll see a remake of Final Fantasy VII - even if it means that Aerith will die - this time on high definition.

be better if SE and Sony had released FFVII for the PSN back when Crisis core was released. Anyways... We Shouldn't believe SE if they say that if they make a FFVII, it would be a ps3 exclusive... at least not until its released, and even then it could be a "silent" timed exclusive.

I for one don't believe in exclusives anymore, ESPECIALLY from squenix..... sony would be smart to unload some cash in squenix's direction for this game. If not then it will probably be a "timed" exclusive.....

Why didn't you put RUMOR at the top? Even in the site you got this news from it says it's a rumor. On top of that, it has real no proof and it's a lame site made by someone looking to get hits. This isn't going to happen.
The only remakes of the Final Fantasy series are those re-released for the GBA, DS and PSP. (The PS1 Anthology were the same games, just re-released for the PS1.)
FFVII has had many spin offs but no remake. there is a difference between a spin off and remake.
And I say yes to a FFVII remake. If you don't want it, don't buy it. Same with every other product out there.
I really hope this winds up being more than just a merely -another- rumor.

Square Enix has been jerking us around for a FFVII remake ever since the PS3 was announced and the Tech demo for it came out in early 2005.
Square Enix is now planning on releasing the original on XBLA? That makes absolutely no sense. For one, the button configuration would be completely changed. SONY licensed FFVII so there would be no way that Square Enix would release it on XBLA without any legal repercussions.
If a Final Fantasy VII remake is going to come out, then more power to them. I have been looking forward to The remake forever now. I just hope that the wait was worth it.

Do you really think SONY, not Square Enix, owns all rights to anything and everything thatsFF7? No, they don't. Do you know who published FF7 for the PC? ... its Eidos. Is Eidos another name for SONY? ... nnnnnnnnnnooooo . So, now do you really think SONY has the rights to FF7, after Eidos published the game for Windows? If SONY did, they would've stopped Eidos from releasing the game on Windows.

Sony did publish FFVII on the PSX, though they don't have the rights to the game. That belongs to Square Enix.
Plus, the Windows version of FFVII was published by Eidos Interactive and had absolutely nothing to do with Sony.
If Square Enix will let it on XBLA, it will be on XBLA. And there's nothing Sony can do about it but pay Square Enix a big bag of cash... And Japanese companies like Sony are against that kind of business.
Now that'd be interesting to see PlayStation games on the virtual console... Though it'd probably be classified under "other" or "PC" or something...

It seems that whereever you go, all Final Fantasy fans want is a FFVII remake... Now, if you asked a Metal Gear fan about a MGS remake, they'd point out The Twin Snakes which wasn't accepted very well by the hardcore fans.(though I consider myself a hardcore fan and I absolutely love Twin Snakes)
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that a remake can go either way. While a re-release has the possibility of upgraded visuals (like most XBLA games... yeah, I know the article said "untainted") and is the same game that everyone knows and loves.
I'm interested in how a remake would turn out, and I'll bet it'd be awesome from Square Enix, but I'm looking more forward to playing this with my 360 controller in upscaled 1080p.

A PS3 exclusive remake of FFVII, seems like decent way of Square Enix making up for the lost exclusivity of XIII for Playstation gamers. As far as releasing it for XBLA. If anyone is interested in Final Fantasy, you probably already have VII. So if you have a 360, but you're a Final Fantasy gamer, you probably have a Playstation1 or 2 with a copy of Final Fantasy VII already. So releasing it for the XBLA seems like a waste of time.
I want to play as sephiroth or something cool, not just play the same game again in better graphics. i can just put the original game in my ps3 if i wanted to see the story and battles again.
