Rumor: PS3 FW 3.40 coming soon

Rumor has it that a new firmware for the PS3 will be coming soon.

System Software version 3.40 had reportely been released to developers since late last week. The Sixth Axis source further claims that it's just gonna be a few short weeks between testing and public release.

Of course, Sony has got no word regarding this, but we'll be sure to break it to you as soon as we hear something.

Seriously? They only took away Other OS due to security reasons. Home is amazing and it's getting better than ever with each update. Heck have you even tried it recently? Plus people should calm down Sony will bring back Other OS one day but a more secure version and who knows it may even a better one to really capture the power of the PS3 Fat and Slim.

It's all about the dust!!! The more dust a chip has on it, the less it can cool down.

You can at least halve the ventilation and it will still work "ok" but if you cover everything inside with dust, that's like covering the vents!

well yesterday I just got the Yellow light of death... so guess I this update will not fix that.

trying to fix but Sony says send $$ + more $$ for shipping wait 4-8 weeks and we will try to send you a fixed ps3.. no saves though.. all I want are my saves!!

and use a external case for the 2.5 sata drive or plug it into a desktop PC via the sata connector and power connector. It will come up as another drive. Then, you should be able to back up all of your game saves.

You cant do that. They have a propriatary hdd format that will not let you access ANYTHING on the drive once formated using the ps3's formater.

I'm really sick of having no PSN, but i really want XBMC on my ps3, and wait eagerly watching the progress of it. And anyone who says the ps3 has Media Center Capabilities is kidding themselves - it is great, but it is very limited, my Original XBox does more (just not as fast)

I may have to get a slim, just to play games soon - or maybe i'll get a 360 - Graphics Quality is comparible - to a point, and it is considerably cheaper to buy.

they're going to remove playstation move compatibility even before it gets released... or maybe they'll remove blu-ray support to sell an HD-DVD and betamax addon... or maybe they'll just remove HDMI support so people have to buy old TVs again, whatever they can come up with to piss consumers off. Why would any game dev create a game for PSP when, 2 days after it's release, it's a fucking free download. That's why there were no good games for PSP. Lastly, people might actually use the Other OS feature (like the Army). I know I don't have any use for it, but many other people do, and it isn't just for hacking. By the way, you can't even play "hacked" games on a PS3 yet dumbass
