Saying that we suggest you take this rumor with a grain of salt... that just might be the biggest understatement of the year. That's if you regard this as a rumor to begin with, and not for something as mere wishful thinking of some MGS4 fans.
While some of the other bloggers are currently gunning through an MGS4 marathon as I write this (man, I wish I could take their place), we've heard of talk that it might be possible in the future to upload your own music into the in-game iPod in Metal Gear Solid 4 from your very own HDD.
This was supposedly hinted at by an in-game podcast between Ryan Payton and Ken Iamizumi accessible by the in-game iPod. (Sorry, we're trying to keep true to Konami's spoiler-free restrictions on technical details.)
Anyways, if this proves to be true, how will this feature be implemented, you ask? Current speculation online holds PS3 Firmware 2.40 as the key to introduce the said feature. The new update is supposed to be released any time soon anyhow.
PS3 Firmware 2.40 is a bit of a wild card these days as it's already been rumored to incorporate in-game XMB access. Adding "music uploading" as another feature just makes our skin crawl. If all these rumors prove to be true, just how huge will this summer's update be? Talk about standing in the midst of pure awesome.
With that said, we'll give you guys updates as they roll along. So for now... Grains of salt, guys. Grains of salt.

Every firmware update for the last year was rumored to have ingame XMB. I'll believe it when I see it.
There are already videos of 2.40 available, leaked from developers of the PS3 version of BioShock. In-game XMB is there, as are trophies.
The Firmwares weren't rumored to have it, it was just fans wanting it. Now, however, we have videos to prove it. There's no reason for a delay unless something seriously odd goes wrong. So expect it next week. I heard from a friend of mine's insider that it's definitely coming this month.

Whats the point having an in-game ipod if you cant customize your music on it, thats what an ipod is all about. Oh and I didnt know the game had an ipod so thanks for spoiling it :P

PS: I'm gonna buy a modded x360 to complement my ps3, since some JRPGs are crawling on the x360, I'll need both consoles, sigh. topic: I hope the firmware update will pop VERY soon!

i thought that the update was necessary for us to even play the game. i expected the update on Wednesday. i never thought that they would have sons on the i pod already. o well im hoping it comes out soon. that in game XMB would be nice so we can coordinate MGO meet ups
I've listened to the pod-cast inside Mgs4 and they say "you can listen to your own music". Now they keep making it seem as if we can listen to our music from our harddrive but currently you can't. I hope the feature gets added because it'd be pretty kool ^_^.
