Rumor: PS3 Downgraded Again?

PS3: Downgraded again?

The Inquirer says that the PS3 has been downgraded again due to some kind of RSX problems. The RSX graphics processing unit, which was previously set to run at 550/700 core/memory has been realigned with expectations and the value chain at 500/650. No reasons were cited in the article.

Well, we urge all our readers to take this post with a huge grain of salt. A lot of rumors about the PS3's specs have already made the rounds since it was announced, and a lot of them proved to be insubstantial. Just like all rumors, the only way to confirm it is for someone actually working on the PS3 speaks out. But still, everyone's free to leave a comment and/or opinion. The floor is yours, guys.

And to be objective they could do this and you would never even know...just like the PSP runs at 333mhz and I don't even think games are still using it....sure that was to save battery, but this would to be save heat....and technically the card would be CAPABLE of the said specs, but whether that's what you are getting not is another question. It's just Sony has done it before so it wouldn't surprise me...

when you try to hide behind the "it's only a rumor" cover: just consider the logic behind having the X360 running 700 MHz GDDR3 for a year and having to clock it down for the PS3...

We were sure to let you know it was a rumor in case you came across the news on some other site that decided to leave that little bit of info out. We actually didn't want to cover the news, but felt it our duty to let you know what was going on out there. We don't make the news, we just report it ;)

This is the same person that had a conversation with some dude on the plane who is an insider and tells him all this great knowledge about the PS3.

Come on this guy can't even spell, and his writing ability is that of a 12 year old. Inquirer has become the worst gaming new source on the internet. It has 0 respect.

Is amazing how some guy can come up with complete BS and get so much attention. He probably get's the inquirer millions of hits a month with his strategy. It is a known fact that, currently in the gaming world, PS3 news get's more hits than any other platform. I never even heard of the Inquirer until this guy started pulling stories out of his a$$.

It is no news at all! It is plain hate mail from an infamous rumor mill. Did you even read the article and its predecessors? It is so full of mockery, getting worse every time, that has nothing to do with journalism.

If i posted on my site that playing X360 turns you into a homosexual communist axe murderer, would you spread the "news" just to let the people know what's going on? By copying and spreading that crap you turn it into a "news" in the first place.

# yes i am madPlanet 2006-08-28 11:54
Sorry for double posting, but there is no edit. The post of seBBex shows exactly what those constant rumors do. In the public reception, sony did downgrade the PS3 endlessly. While it only got rid of a 2 USB ports (which is quite bearable, having 4 left), the second HDMI (which would have been usefull for maybe 0.2% of the audience) and the spare Ethernet ports (who wants to buy a 600$ PS3 to do the job of a 15$ switch?). Every other detail has not been changed! Not once. Nothing. Yet still people "know" Sony killed the PS3...

George Orwell's 1984 from is still a good read! If you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes the truth.

Some sordid news agencies will slime their "news" through the mud to get people to read their printed toilet paper, and Inq is no different in how they pull stunts like this to get site visits.

If they want site visits, here's one I recommend... the public e-mail link to the troll who wrote that story:

http://uk.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?page=24&authorID=110

Let them know what you think of their great work in journalism.

# Shatterdome, that is exactly what these people do, take a little bit of known fact and add garbage.TheProfessor 2006-08-28 12:20
Let's say some site posted something like this:

- Insider claims all 360 games that use multithreading with the three Cores will trash your 360. Actually is so bad that most developers are pulling away from coding to the three cores and instead are continuing to make their titles look last gen with single threaded execution. Even the mega title Gears of War will now be released without multi-core usage.

- Insider claims that the Wii's new network platform is still in it's infancy and that the virtual console will have very few titles. He also claimed that half of the Wii launch titles are actually tech demos build to test the remote which Nintendo decided to instead release as games and bump up the amount of launch titles. Furthermore, it looks like like the Wii is just a gamecube with a peripheral controller as he noted the hardware is comparable to that of a gamecube with a bit more ram.

Both these stories contain a bit of truth turned into an ugly mockery of the console. These so called reporters play on this fact to get readers guessing whether is real or not.

All of his articles have been disproved, why would this be any different.

not because sony wouldnt do it but the fact that final dev kits have been given and more than a few games are 80%+ into devolpment, sony wouldn't change spec 2 months before launch or else they wouldn't have a single game ready by nov. 17th.

We'll never know whether or not the rumor is true or false. It doesnt even matter because it will sell regardless. If Sony had the audacity to announce a console that costs more than a good pc nowadays then they have nothing to worry about. The psp went through numerous downgrades before its launch and it still sold well. Sony's target audience are ppl who are technologically illeterate and dont care about specs. So... BLAH!

So I actually went to the source link to The Inquirer. The author is a complete jackass and unprofessional. You say that you posted this blog to make sure that everyone knows this is a rumor yet anyone who would read that original article would know how unprofessional and how bias driven it is. Comon really, just read this quote from the The Inquierers article

"As a help to the fanbois who inevitably write in somewhat curious broken englishish every time their precious console gets re-specced in a downward manner, please cut and paste the following. It will save you at least an hour trying to figure out the parts of the keyboard that are not WASD:"

"As for Sony, I know your reaction, you are going to start a whispering campaign on the forums like last time. Please give the PR genius who thought that one up a promotion and a raise. It worked so well to cower me that I got more inside sources disgusted with you third rate backstabbing attempts than I got in a year. Please do it again, I didn't take offense last time, and I promise not to this time."

He sure doesn't sound like he has something against Sony. Nope, he surrree doesn't.

Final dev kits were shipped out already. Nvidia chip yields are strong for their desktop line and the RSX is basically a desktop GPU.

This rumor is garbage. Its like saying new revisions of the Xbox360 will be downgraded to compensate for overheating issues.

Microsoft must be really scared paying the media to release anti-ps3 news. They know that they wont win this generation, they know that Sony will beat them in terms of power and graphics. They know they will get a bigger share of the market this generation. They will do everything they can to bring Sony down from the the top position and they will fail.

Yes I understand that QJ.net needs to know the opinions of the audience that it targets. But there are more productive approaches to doing so.

For one, address the QJ.net staff directly, and with intelligence. Prove that your words are worth listening to.

I understand the importance of changing the Qj.net staff. I myself think that Qj is an extremely unprofessional source of information, and it is a rumors site at best, not a source of credited information. You have sites like IGN and Gamespot for that.

But 40 or so posts of repetitious and unintelligible garbage isn't going to change QJ. You have to realize that this is THEIR site, and we have to play by THEIR rules. Here, they are master. Show them that we can play their game.
