Rumor: Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy heading for Xbox 360?

It's no secret that a monopoly on exclusive games such as the Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy franchises is a large selling point for the PlayStation 3. However, EMagLive.com reports some very disconcerting info for Sony if it comes to pass: their sources report that the two heavyweight franchises may go multiplatform.

A source close to Microsoft said that the company was currently in talks with Square Enix to "at least get [Final Fantasy XIII] as a timed multiplatform and at most get the game as a simultaneous release." The talks are largely in favor for Microsoft, pending an agreement on the amount for monetary compensation.

When EMagLive.com contacted Square Enix for a comment, the company maintained a stand that could still go both ways:

At this time, there is nothing announced toward a Cross PlatformFinal Fantasy game, other then Final Fantasy XI (Xbox 360, PC) and The Last Remnant (PS3, Xbox 360). This is not to say it will never happen ... decisions to develop additional games for the XBox 360 will ultimately be made by Square Enix and Microsoft.

While investigating FFXIII, they also found that Microsoft may also be close to acquiring the Metal Gear Solid franchise. Konami made an equally ambiguous comment regarding the franchise making the trip to the 360 console:

Microsoft's only comment was a no comment statement: "[We] just can't divulge any details of any deals we have with business partners." SCEA CEO Jack Tretton commented on Sony's stand on exclusivity earlier this summer: "We don't buy exclusivity, we don't fund development. We don't, for lack of a better term, bribe somebody to only do a game on our platform."

This is still all hearsay though. In truth, we may never be able to confirm it for sure until the companies decide to announce it, so all we could do at this point is speculate and wait. Updates as we get them.

Square Enix said just the other day that FF is PS3 exclusive, and it was reported on this very site, no less.

Well considering both companies are making million+ dollar projects and seeing as they probably wont pay off the game and make a lot of profit from the PS3, they are most likely considering the cut of the exclusivity to the PS3 to make ends meet. As of now, the 360 will make you a lot of money, the PS3 wont, simple business.

It is annoying how these people keep bringin back this rumor, Hideo Kojima HIMSELF said that he (like twice) that it is a PS3 exclusive!! Also, for MGS4 to come out on both 360 and PS3 is DUMB, because they are not even working on a 360 version. And by the time that comes out it'll have been a year already.

And further down on this VERY page, SE confirms its a PS3 only title. so please enough already.

that would be the case if those weren't such huge titles. people have been waiting since the ps3 came out for those games to be released. people WILL buy ps3s for this game and there is no doubt that they will be at the top of the chart. if sony loses these exclusives then there is little to no chance for the ps3 but if they keep it and i doubt that M$ can throw their money around that hard the ps3 will get a nice boost and help it in the race.

These rumors are like roaches, annoying and just won't die. SE is smart enough to know when they release ffxiii, ps3 will fly off the shelf and i bet they know the price drop in ps3 will boost sale. Considering the graphics and well graphics, making it on xbox 360 will be like 4-5 discs. And by the time mg4 and ffxiii comes out, the price for ps3 will be low enough to reach even more home. Dude, your calling microsoft the copy cats? *sigh* here goes... Sony added six axis in the last minute to compete with the wii's motion sensor remote. Sony stole the Xbox 360 menu button thats located in the middle of the controller on the 360 (you know, the ps button?). Sony added triggers to their controller (much like 360 has, only the ps3's is much less comfortable).

I'm not taking sides here. I have all the consoles. I'm just saying, each company is willing to do anything to boost sales on their end. Whether its steal ideas or buy out big game franchises, they will do it if the end result leaves them with more money. Do you really think that the executives at microsoft are money hungry leeches and the executives at sony are these humble monks that just want to give you the finest gaming experience without any kind of corporate profits? Just wake up dude.

although saying that he should die he has a point. the fact of the matter is that the ps3 is only minimally more powerful then the 360 and the only way to benefit is to completely develop a game from start to finish on the ps3 with no other platforms in mind. the only studios that can afford to do that are the sony studios. that is the reason why all the 3rd party games look better on the 360

mgs4 for a fact is not going to 360. konami may say that they want to but its not konami's game to say that. mgs4 is kojima productions game and whatever kojima say is true. thats one of the reason he was going to stop directing mgs because konami kept budding in, in his work. the thing is that he does not like making a game for two platforms because it takes away a lot of time to make the game better. he also nows that most of his fans are playstation players. as for ff if ms gets it then people would rather get the ps3 version because its most likely going to be on one disc compared to a 4 disc 360 version.

IF a console game works on the PC then theoretically its a simple matter to get it to run on the xbox. If its simple the ability to earn extra cash is tempting for any company. if they do or not is related only to whatever contracts that they may have with respective companies.
