Rumor: Insomniac moving on to multiplatform development

Will Insomniac's games no longer be sticking exclusively to Sony consoles? That's the rumor going around right now.

IGN cites a "trusted source" who says that the third-party developer is now allegedly working on a multiplatform title for both PS3 and Xbox 360. Given that Resistance and Ratchet and Clank are Sony-funded franchises, this multiplatform game (if it does exist) is likely something completely new

Although Insomniac is an independent developer not included in Sony's stable of first-party studios, all of their games have so far been made for Sony home consoles.

So long as current exclusives stay exclusive then its all good...at least some of the xbox owners will get to experience some of insomniacs talent.

Would be one of the first times xbox owners get to see talent on work when it's not a game by Bungie.

They already commented on that:

And yes, if even if they go Multiplat, which won't happen, Ratchet & Clank and Resistance stay Sony exclusives as the IPs are owned by Sony.

I hope it's false.. I believe some of the highest quality and more memorable games are exclusives, because they can take advantage of that particular console's specs and they don't have to waste resources porting it, testing it on two platforms, etc.. Think Melee, God of War, Gears of War (not the biggest fan but it's still pretty decent), Mario Galaxy..

Do You Realize that the gaming industry is all about money, I am pretty sure Microsoft is able to offer more money to them, thats what they have been doing since day one with the computing industry, like DOS out playing everyone, what they did to Netscape... Also even what they did to the company that made Sony's chip, they paid them to make them a similar chip for the 360. Microsoft probably is able to offer them more money because they can get income from XBL, its all business. I personally am a Sony fag, but you got to see the truth, loyalty means jack **** if you are getting offered more money from someone else...

keep in mind that Insomniac is a 1st Party Developer for Sony. they've always developed for Sony and have said countless times they are staying with Sony. James Stevenson and Ted have spoken on this a few times before. its NOT GONNA HAPPEN.

Just to clarify, Insomniac is independent and not a first-party dev, although all of their games have been for Sony consoles.

# do you think quality will drop?usjbroly 2010-03-13 15:04
pretty much all exclusives have a AAA seal of quality than mult-platform titles (excluding the majority of wii titles) especially those on EVERY console available. some have pulled it off, call of duty, but...

I like insommniac, but i could care less for exclusives. Resistance was crap, but ratchet was alright. What I'd be excited for is a new Twisted Metal.

I know that probably won't be hitting multiplatform, but I hope it could.

I feel like Sony ruined that series, so in regards to the relationship between Insomniac and Sony, I'm glad to see Insomniac grow out of this.

i dont see what the problem is.. if they want to make a game for all platforms, and that is not an exclusive to previous sony console games, and as long as its a completely new game then thats fine.. but i dont think they will stop making exclusive games for sony..

Well I personally hope that this will happen because I love the Ratchet and Clank series, but Im more into shooters so I bought the 360 (I dont like sonys placement of the analog sticks on their controller) So if we see R&C on 360, like GTA IV, then I will be one happy gamer :D
