Rumor: Home coming in ten days' time?

PlayStation Home - Image 1Hmm. Here's something interesting. PlayStation Home is currently in closed beta right? The start of the open beta hasn't been given an exact date yet aside from a vague "by Christmas" target, but it looks like we could be seeing it in less than two weeks' time.

We spotted this interesting little tidbit in a recent Home feature published on the Times Online UK website (emphasis ours):

To try Home, which is slated for release in the next 10 days, players must download a piece of free software from SonyÂ’s PlayStation store onto their own PS3.

Does the Times Online know something about Home that we don't? Maybe, maybe not. take it with a grain of salt guys. As for us, we'll keep our eyes peeled for any further developments in the coming days.

Thanks to Kyle Thompson (GameBox 47) for the tip!

open beta only translates to more bandwidth cost for Sony. I'm sure they're going to wait until the last min to increase that cost. This would naturally translate to the first day of Winter.

sony needs to advertise home before Christmas not after people had make up their minds and bought a 360 instead

I can more or less vaguely confirm this rumor. I'm in the closed beta and today people were running around like crazy yelling "OPEN BETA ON DECEMBER 16th!!!!" So yeah, if any of those closed beta testers can be relied upon December 16 does correspond to 10 days from now.

Don't quote me on it though.

There was a rumour on this very site a few days or weeks ago saying it could be released either 15th or 30th, 15th is within 10 days from now so maybe, not much to do on home yet but it's still fun :-D

I'm in the closed beta as well, and I can tell you there is enough idiots on there that it would only take a few ppl starting a rumour to get everyone running around yelling "open beta on blah blah"

What I find funny is that they are calling it an open beta, rather than a release....what's the difference really ? Other than the fact that they can blame any problems on the premisise it's still a "beta"....

Don't see why this is a rumor since it's been confirmed for release this month anyway. It's coming this month unless it rains, causing them to delay it.

Hurry and release it already.... the sooner they release it, the sooner they can receive feedback, the sooner they can perfect it ; )... all fingers point to the obvious solution that they release it asap : )

As someone who has been there and done it.. I say meh.

If they get it out by the end of this year, the benefit of it will amount to a collective "About goddamn time mofos!"

If they fail to get it out this year, the only negative will amount to a collective "Ha! Told ya so losers"

It will come when it comes and when it does.. it isnt going to make much of a splash. Sony is going to try and slip it out silently, knowing if they were to market it like the NXE that the PSN would blow up and leave a smoking crater on day one. It will be a long time before that problem ceases to be a concern and so it will be a long time before HOME can live up to its own hype.

Sony should have kept HOME quiet for longer. It's obviously taking them far too long to develop.

My friend gave me the Beta version and most things are locked away. If they want the public to test features in HOME they haven't given much to test. might as well have had no beta and keep the whole thing secret until it was more or less ready.

Home isn't immense...Even the Summer House is pretty small. All you can really do is run around and talk with friends/strangers, and play pool/chell/bowling/arcade games. That's it. Oh, and buy stuff at the mall.

Not that great.

@Shatterdome: Your question answers itself, doesn't it? --You make it sound like it's some "minor detail" whether it's called a 'full release' or a 'beta': one is a promise-of-sorts that it's supported software. One is a way of saying, "This is pretty solid, but if it blows-up don't expect us to spend ours staffing our support lines for you about it." ....Big, BIG difference on the bottom-line, my friend. Especially if you've got something (like Home) that's so broad that you might not be able to fully test every square virtual inch of space.

yeah the homes are small, but it is brilliant, i've made more friends through home, than from playing online! because you get to know folk better this way!! i'm sorry naroon, but if you can't see the potiental in this to be great, then you're not playing about with it properly! imagine showing off your photos at your house, or streaming your videos between friends also in your house? if you have a go of home and just sit/stand there, its because its obviously not for you! which is fair do's!

What is wrong with you? Why do you play video games? With that mentality why do you play any video games? Go do that stuff in REAL life... then don't play the PS3.. you are on a ps3 website telling someone who is excited about a ps3 function to stop doing it and go do it in real life.. its like telling someone who plays Madden, go play real football.. or like a Socom player, go join the army... its a FUN "Game" and people play games for a multitude of reasons... for you to tell him "go make real friends" "don't spend ur life doing it in a game" whats wrong with you.. sell your PS3 and go live ur life then.. ; P

People seem to confuse Home (a social networking tool) with a blockbusting new game. No, it isn't a great new game, or something you can spend weeks on getting trophies, it IS a glorified chat room with activities. Only problem is you have idiots who don't know much about it and have never tried it coming out of the woodwork saying "home is sh**, f**k sony blah blah" Well f**k you, sony are giving this to us for free, quit complaining and wait you bunch of whiney c**ts.

although you have valid points you fail to realize mine

video games can be used however you want be it entertainment,a n escape, or whatever, BUT people take home to be a place to make friends that they will most likely never meet. what i dislike about home is that people rather do it in a game and have a best friend in a game then go do it for real. you can have buddies but "friends" that you treat like you know personally is dumb. basically ditch home go get real friends go shopping for real go do anything in home for real. once you rather do it in a game then in real life you have a problem

Owner_OGH ive already met a friend in real life off of home so your theory doesnt hold up, and why can't you make friends in real life and meet them in home too?
