A trip to the mill didn't only net us more rumors but a whole lot of cryptic imagery as well. The GTPlanet forums are abuzz with some more rumors about Gran Turismo 5 and the elusive portable entry in the Gran Turismo series.
These rumors were posted by amar212, who apparently has a track record for being pretty much always dead on about these things. The post comes in a cryptic flavor full of allusions to winds and such, but here's what is generally believed to be what amar212 is really trying to say:
- Gran Turismo 5 is coming out in March 2010. Or December 2009, depending on your interpretation. It will have a simultaneous worldwide release.
- There will be 600 cars and 90 tracks. Users will also be able to make their won tracks by combining parts taken from pre-existing tracks.
- Increased connectivity options. A voice chat feature and clan/team support are among those believed to be included.
- There will be two versions: a more expensive full version that has everything and a cheaper version that lets gamers just choose and download what they want.
- Finally, a pared-down release for a platform that "still has not been uncovered" but "made in the image of" an existing one. Gran Turismo for the PSP2?

But the maker of GT said he was trying to incorporate damage. Just hope he does it right.

so for me, no damage is worse, because it results in things like the unrealistic technique gamers use to go around corners faster in gt games, which is to bounce off other cars.

Having said that, I hope it's more than just for show, because if I'm racing against people online, I'd hate it if gamers can use the GT cheat of deliberately crashing into me to get around a corner faster, all because there's no damage. Time penalties doesn't cut it either.
If they can't add damage, then the physics should be adjusted so that cars don't just bounce off each other and continue as if nothing happened, speed should be lost so that gamers are discouraged from using this cheat.

Why can't this be done for GT5? Wouldn't that satisfy ALL gamers, especially when racing online? Those that want things the same as it's always been in GT can join or host sessions where there's no damage. Others can join or host sessions where the damage level is set to their liking. Some gamers may switch between no damage and up to full damage just to add variety to the racing experience.
Therefore I see no reason or excuses for damage not to be included in GT5. It really is about time the series was updated in this respect, and therefore I have high hopes of this happening in GT5. :)

And then add your suggestion about different damage levels (although I'm not sure how that would work for the main game itself. How is it done in Forza?).
