Rockstar's Sam Houser: powerful people want to put us out of business

All ears were on Rockstar North's Sam Houser, brother of co-founder Dan Houser, after the latest feature of MCV Legends ushered in the co-founder's life struggles and achievements over the years in the industry. In that same feature, Houser divulged one of the many challenges that he and the company had to face: people out to get Rockstar.

Houser told MCV that "surviving in an environment in which large numbers of powerful people want to put you out of business for their own political or economic capital" was the biggest challenge he had to face. He did not name these people, and neither were names pressed from him.

While he wasn't part of the creation process (DMA Design were the forerunners of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, thus, Rockstar North was not yet founded), Houser did contribute to the later games. He and his brother were key in Rockstar North, though now they rally all recognition toward the Rockstar Games brand.

People should have the right to do whatever they desire, starting at a reasonable age of course. The Houser brothers had gaming in mind, they want to push the boundaries of where games can go. I don't see a problem with that as long as children are not able to play these games. Seeing how society has gone down the tube, we don't need certain games subconsciously putting bad ideals into their minds. I hope that we will continue to see games pushing new boundaries, but eventually a limit will be met. For myself I know there's a limit as to what content I can handle before even I will not play it.

There's not much that would be included in a game that I would be opposed to. Of course if you got to the extremes and start poppin off kids, maybe introducing graphic rape and stuff like that... it'd make me sick, but it's not like they could get away with that anyway. They'd be banned from ever publishing such material.

Cursing, violence, mutilation, w/e it's all fine with me, there's just a few moral boundaries that game makers ought to keep in mind and honestly I don't see anyone who's crossed those, ever.

Well, this is nothing new, someone wanting to take away someone's right to free speech, our freedom has been fought for and continues to be fought for to this day, why must people... citizens of this country constantly try to take this right away by limiting it?
