Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV earned USD 500 million in week one |
Ó
Rockstar's North Grand Theft Auto 4 (Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3) is certainly one of the biggest games ever released for this year. What's initially notable it is that, Chart Track has revealed that it has been able to sell about 926, 000 copies in its first week in the UK.Since we're talking about the game's first week, the NY Times has just reported that GTA 4 has been able to reach US$ 500 million in sales. Well, this certainly has surpassed the numbers of what analysts have predicted previously.
Furthermore, the company has reported that it was able to sell about 3.6 million units of the game on its first day. These numbers are certainly astounding, don't you think? Could the game make its mark as an authentic Guinness Record Breaker in the coming weeks? Only time will tell. Until then, we'll keep you guys posted on more news as soon as we get them.

Almost as amazing as the game is to play!
If Chart Track is correct, then wouldn't the game have to cost 500 bucks for the numbers to add up?
Do I believe Chart Track or the NYTimes? hmm
I was just thinking that myself. I don't remember paying $500 for the game, so where does there extra $443,000,000 come from?
Something is a little off here.
Chart Track doesn't include anything outside of europe. Why they would include only that small percentage in their numbers is completely retarded. The rest of the world picked up that 4.4million you're wondering about.
This is the fastest selling form of entertainment ever! In your face, Harry Potter.
First off, you're pretty much contradicting yourselves. You call QJ dumb, yet you're actively on their site looking at news.
Next, how about you finish your research before you bash them? They wouldn't report something without checking to make sure that they don't screw up too badly. Sure, they've made mistakes in the past, but you all have too. Don't even say you haven't because then you're just lying out of your ass.
Anyway, these figures are almost as great as the game is. XD.
Ironman had 250M$ in it's 1st weekend, maybe this game will surpass the #1 selling movie now, lol.
but I feel like comparing movie sales to game sales is like comparing apples to watermelons IMO. A ticket to Liberty City costs roughly 6X as much as a non-matinee movie ticket in the US and more in other countries. I'm not trying poke at TTwo (I thought the same thing with the release of Halo3) but this is gonna be an obvious win with almost every big video game release compared to it's (apple) blockbuster movie counterpart. It'd be interesting to see # of tickets sold versus # of games sold for a little better perspective of everything.
That said I think 500mil is phenominal for a very mature game. But very deserving ... great game TT
