Niko Bellic, main protagonist of Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto IV - Image 1If you still haven't watched the action-packed trailer to Rockstar Games' highly anticipated sequel to the Grand Theft Auto series, then shame on you! If you're as hyped up as we are on the upcoming game then you'll be happy to know that Rockstar has decided to release some inside information with what players can expect when Grand Theft Auto IV (Xbox 360, PS3) finally comes out.

In an interview with IGN, Rockstar Games talks about some of the new things GTA4 will be packing, as well as how the new story will play itself out compared with the past GTA games.

The story of GTA4 centers on Niko Bellic and his relationship with his cousin, Roman. Much like the past iterations, the game focuses on the dynamic relationships the characters have with one another, along with their motivations and mistakes that drive the plot.

Rockstar also commented on how GTA4's story compares to its predecessors and how it stands with today's popular movie genre:

The game is set today, so we wanted a story, world and set of characters that felt very contemporary. We don't feel the story is comparable to any particular movie. For one thing it is obviously much broader in scope than a movie script, as the game is far longer than any movie, and for another, we felt that the power of the new hardware gave us the freedom to tell stories in a more detailed and engaging way, so we no longer need to take prompts from movies and instead could take inspiration from the world itself.

The game is very much inspired by the realities of living in New York in particular, and the world in general, right now. The story is long, more like a TV series or epic novel than one movie and has several major twists and turns in it.

They were also particularly proud of the amount of added detail they've added to the new game. If the intricate hand-to-hand combat sequence in the trailer is any indication to the amount of added detail, then we definitely can't wait for the game's release.

Gamers can expect to see Niko rip up the streets of New York early next year when Grand Theft Auto IV finally ships out to stores everywhere in North America. You can check out the full interview with Rockstar Games through the Via link below.

All I want to hear is...

GTA4 is coming out on "insert date". Other than that, screw this hype.

Awesome I can't wait

This game will be the illest GTA game to date. @RexNox Its coming out in early spring most likely March, stop complaining seriously.

I just hope that

the story doesn't become too boring and that they can keep it interesting. I'm sure the gameplay will be just fine, but stories from them I am a little worried about.

The story will be ill

The story is always great, and considering they have great new options available this time around they could give us add-ons of more missions to make a cooler story and replay Value. GTA storyline has always been great. Name me one GTA game that hasn't got a good storyline.
