Rockstar Games making exclusive new franchise for PS3 |

PlayStation owners will definitely want to hear about this little tidbit of news we found over at the official PlayStation blog. Michael Shorrock, director of third-party relations at Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA), noted that they would be making a new franchise meant specifically for the PlayStation 3. More importantly, this franchise is said to be "all new," and will not be LA Noire. "As part of our longstanding relationship with Rockstar," Sharrock writes, "and the incredible success for both companies with the cultural icon that is Grand Theft Auto, weÂ’ve agreed to the PlayStation exclusive rights of the next great franchise from the Rockstar studios." They've yet to note what this new deal with Rockstar is all about, but we're hoping more details about the deal and the new game will be revealed in the coming weeks.
In the meantime, it's a wonderful moment for speculation. What do you think about this new deal, and what do you think will this new game be about?

Rockstar needs to make a killer title like they did way back when with GTA. This could be the start of a new era not only for rockstar, but also for playstation

There were some desert/western themed tech demos back at E3 '06 that were from rockstar if i recal corectly. Perhaps its related to those. Will be interesting to see what it is anyway.

Let's just wait and see if the new IP is any good first! Right now, I'd take extra content for GTA4 over a new IP.
Table Tennis is a 360 exclusive from Rockstar, and whilst the PS3 wasn't out at the time, the PS3 is out NOW, and yet there's nothing to suggest this game will be ported to the PS3.
So a new IP for the PS3 is great (I'm looking forward to more info), but it's nothing to cheer about until we do find out what it is.
Besides, for all we know, we may find out that Rockstart have yet another new IP in the works exclusively for the 360. So what will happen then, will you guys start argueing on which new IP will be the best?

also, Table Tennis was just a program to basically test the strength of the 360's graphics chip.
it was an early title, btw.
and there hasnt been another 360 title on 360 since... until GTA IV was announced. but, that is a multi-platform game.
If another R* 360 exclusive game was to come out, it would probably be "EXTREME NURSING HOME RALLY FEATURING GRANNY NUM NUMS" and test MicroSoft's gullability.

Well, as heard before by many of us, Sony believes that they don't buy their exclusives, they earn them. I'm not saying that Microsoft or Nintendo are bad companies, though. I like both of their consoles too (I just prefer the PS3 over).

You also seem to forget that GTA was a TIMED exclusive last gen, it was not a PS2 exclusive IP.

This is great news yet another exclusive comfirmed under our belt, and this is because Ken Kutaragi (even though I respect him) is not dealing with the exclusive deals anymore.
Now this exclusive and some games coming from David Jaffe and his new company.

well the real problem i think in ps3 right now is lack of innovation, cause back when the ps2 was out, it was on top because all these companies were releasing never before seen stuff on the ps2, and no one else had it, though later on xbox , to compete it did its fair share of porting ( similar to ps3 getting 360 ports right now ? ) and later on got its on established ip’s like halo and so on.
So ya part of the problem is that there are lack of exclusives, but also that a lot of what we can get at the moment can be had on other consoles . so I’ll leave it at that

With all due respect, that's a rather child like way of looking at things. Companies like Rockstar do no operate with the mentality of caring for one company more than another (that's something fanboys do), they simply want to make great games on whichever format will allow them to do so. Sometimes it will be the PS3, other times the 360, and other times the Wii.
So I wish you guys would stop reading a hidden message into every action a developer takes, since until recently, 360 fanboys were claiming Rockstar like MS better because of the exclusive content for GTA with PS3 fanboys attacking Rockstar for taking money from MS to do so. Now suddenly PS3 fanboys are happy with Rockstar and 360 fanboys are scratching there heads. All because of a stupid need to support one console/company and hate another.

Yet at the end of the day, nothing will change, as we wont make others agree with us with petty insults. And just what could this mystery franchise be? Why is it so secret? Sounds like it's going to be a big letdown to me. If additional GTA IV content cost MS $50 mil, I doubt sony had that much to spend on a whole exclusive game. Probably a game like Table Tennis 2 or something. Buy PS3s while you're hoping it will be good. They're only $499 right now. They're going fast, to be replaced by a 80gb ripoff model.
