Grand Theft Auto 4's Niko Bellic - Image 1Rockstar Games just sent out a statement regarding the edits made on Grand Theft Auto 4 (Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3) to earn the Australian Office of Film and Literature Classification's (OFLC) MA15+ rating, reassuring fans of the series in Australia that it will still get the entire package. The developer did not specify what was removed from the Australian version, but promises Aussie gamers the same quality as other iterations of the game.

A few days ago, many followers anticipating the release of Grand Theft Auto 4 frowned when news broke out about Rockstar making a tamer version of the game in accordance to the guidelines of a country without an R18+ rating for video games. After all the ruckus, here's what the developer had to say:

While there are some minor differences between the Australian and US/EU versions, they are not significant and we do not believe they take away from the level of scope and detail that make GTA IV such an incredible experience.

Rockstar stressed that it won't release Grand Theft Auto IV if quality was compromised. For now, GTA's creators want gamers to voice out and tell Australian politicians that the OFLC needs an R18+ rating, else games will continue to be edited as necessary.

i just

hope that they could give in detail what was taken out so Aussie consumers like me can make a more informed decision... especially for a game like GTA, a lot of people like it for different reasons so eventhough the ommissions doesn't affect the gameplay, as they say, still some aspects of the game (like say blood or picking up prostitutes or drunk driving) might weigh more to some person over another person and not having that in the game might be ok for some but might affect the level of satisfaction of others especially if he knows that other people with other versions of the game is able to experience things which unfortunately he can't. anyway i've already pre-ordered my copy as well as a couple of my friends from playasia and just picked UPS as the delivery method so we could get it as soon as we can.

Put yourself in their shoes

So you're told you can't release your title unless you edit it...so you agree. Customers find out and so you tell them it's not so bad (because they may not buy your game). I love watching pornos without the 'banging' scenes included...makes the story so much better every time. They're all such good actors!
