Rock Band vs. Guitar Hero III: shortcoming for Rock Band noted |
Ó
Two of the biggest rhythm sim titles released recently are still going neck-and-neck in the monthly sales race. While Harmonix and MTV Games' Rock Band (Xbox 360, PS3) was able to outsell Activision and Neversoft's Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (PC, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii) this holiday season, Rock Band wasn't exactly able to cover all its bases in the long-running sales race to give it the decisive edge overall. At US$ 170 a pop, Rock Band seemed to be the sweeter deal between the two considering the entire bundle that comes with the game - drums, guitar, microphone, and the game itself. According to some figures from the NPD Group, this was evident with the first few weeks of its market sales hitting 296,000 copies sold for the Xbox 360, and 68,500 copies on the PS3, for a total of 364,500 copies combined.
However, while the initial burst of sales overwhelmed Guitar Hero III, in the long run it was the multi-platform release of the game which made it dominate once again this November; with a majority of its players rocking on their PS2 consoles with 1,469,800 copies sold.
Rock Band is looking to match Guitar Hero III's edge with an upcoming PS2 SKU release of its own. However, there doesn't seem to be any sign of a Wii version for Rock Band any time soon, so Guitar Hero III will still have the clear advantage in at least one console.
Also, it was also noted that the lack of peripheral instruments sold for Rock Band seem to be affecting its overall sales. This was linked to the fact that there were a lot of initial problems with its various instruments when it was first released. While Electronic Arts has taken it into itself to service as many of the faulty instruments as they can, there's still a backlog of customers asking for replacement controllers.
Rock Band has answered this problem by announcing its release of individual peripherals some time in early 2008, however we'll just have to see next month if Rock Band still has a chance to keep pace with its rival rhythm sim.

So basically they're saying the cheaper product is going to sell more...
Quick, somebody get these guys a cookie.
Rock Band is much better than Guitar Hero anyday. I just got my replacment guitar, and it seems much better, like its been improved finally. I think that's BS they won't release the guitar patch for the PS3 version, makes me happy I have the XBOX one.
They'd do much better if they had a $99 Drum/Mic/Game combo for all the people that already own GH and don't want/need to pay for another guitar.
I know I'd but RB to go with my GHII/GHIII if that happened, but 169 + tax is way to much.
[ The Best Movie in 2008: Valkyrie ]
Watch the movie trailers, so you have an idea on what these movies (Valkyrie and Speed Racer) are. You thought Tom Cruise is a character in the movie who’s trying to murder Adolf Hitler. Nah, the leaked script (summary) is available online. Tom Cruise is loyal to Hitler. Tom is acting like a traitor because Tom and Hitler want to hind out who are loyal and who are not before they can start the World War II (I saw this coming, I mean I knew Tom Cruise is loyal to Hitler; Valkyrie is made by the director who made the Usual Suspects; good guys are actually bad; bad guys are actually good, etc).
[ The Best Movie in 2008: Speed Racer ]
It’s from the makers of the Matrix trilogy, and Speed Racer looks luscious, fantastic and crazy. I’m especially talking about the graphics (CGI). Speed Racer seems to be better than the Craptrix 3 anyway. Look at the trailer (there’s only one).
- at 00:12 – Track Mania (PC game)???
- at 00:47 – Bioshock!!! (an underwater city)
- generally (the trailer includes racing girls) – Need for Speed???
- generally (throughout the whole trailer) – MotorStorm!!!
Look at the Bioshock scene (at 00:47) then you may think the graphics is terrific for a movie. They just added some nice glow effects on people’s clothing and some more.
[ This Old One Needs a Better Sequel: Sonic the Hedgehog ]
Just look at the newest Sonic remakes for PS3 and X360. Sonic is in 3 dimensional just like Mario on Wii. Mario moves so slow; therefore, Mario games can be made perfectly in 3D. Sonic and its (or his) friends move 10 to 20 times faster than Mario and its gang (20 times faster when they are in Super state, such as Super Sonic in glowing gold color). As a result, the new Sonic game (PS3) is totally crappy.
Look at LittleBigPlanet (PS3) and Small Arms (X360); at first glance (I mean for the first 5 seconds), you think both are 2D games; then you know that they are 100% 3 dimensional. The developers chose such camera angle (and you can’t move around or change the fixed camera angle), so these games look like 2D games. LBP is 3rd most popular and hyped PS3 game in 2008 (after Killzone 2 and Metal Gear Solid). If Sega just makes a new Sonic game like LBP or Small Arms (by using such camera angle), then this Sonic will be superb (with perfect gameplay and controlling even when Sonic is so fast).
Then Sega needs to add one more new character (which is not crappy). This new Sonic game must be much difficult to play. For example, look at Sonic 3 which was really popular (so you should know a lot about it). Sonic 3 has 6 levels and the entire game can be finished in 4 to 5 hours; but 95% of the entire game is blazingly easy to play; and 5% is very hard and challenging (for example, you have to go through underwater mazes very fast; otherwise, Sonic will be drowned). The new Sonic game must be 80% groundbreaking difficult + 15% quite hard + 5% easy.
(I only like talking about various topics, and that’s why I post long comments time to time. On the other hand, I’m not a fan of reading other people’s comments. I simply never waste even 2 seconds to read comments posted by garbage like you, game addicts (yes, I’m talking about you); therefore, don’t bother to post replies here, kid.)
Don't be cheap, for what you get, it's a deal.
