Ridge Racer 7

A few new details on Namco Bandai's Ridge Racer 7 for the PS3 have emerged today from Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu. Publishers Namco Bandai disappointed many gamers at E3 as only one trailer was released, with the game not actually being shown. Now it seems they're trying to make up for it by revealing more in-game details and plans of updating the official Ridge Racer 7 website.

The latest issue of Famitsu magazine has revealed information on 7 of the game modes to be included in the game whose release date is as of yet to be announced. Here's what you can expect from Ridge Racer's first next-generation console outing:
  • Ridge State Grand Prix: RR7's main mode of play takes place in Ridge State, known as the place to be for motor sports. The mode contains 160 races set on 44 courses including both normal and reverse courses. As you win races, you earn new cars and parts just like in previous titles in the Ridge Racer franchise.
  • Online Battle: This online racing mode is expected to support 14 simultaneous players. In addition to competitive racing, the mode will feature cooperative play through relay, team battle and pair time attack options.
  • Global Time Attack: You face off against the world's racers for the best time in this time attack mode. This mode also supports split screen play, allowing for two players to team up for pair time attack.
  • Arcade: The standard arcade mode of play that supports two players via split screen. You would've played this mode a lot in previous Ridge Racers and it's good to hear that the old favourite will make it to the PS3 version.
  • UFLA Special Event: This mode features events that are downloaded through the internet.
  • Machine Connector: You can customize your machine in this mode - a first for the Ridge Racer series. You can customize your car both in performance, tuning your engine, adding nitros, and the exterior, adding stickers, bumpers and more Fast and the Furious style. New stickers will be made available through future downloads.
The game will also feature a Ranking Browser that allows you to view ranking data from around the world, pitching you against not just your mates, but strangers on the other side of the world. Expect more information to be released at this year's Tokyo Game Show.
