Microsoft's Xbox Live network has long been regarded as the best and most complete console-based service of its type. One developer, however, sees the status quo tilting in the near future.

In an interview with IGN, Naughty Dog's  Richard Lemarchand commented that the PlayStation Network's continuous transformation will result to a better online service than Xbox Live soon. He didn't go too deep into details, but it seemed that he has a lot of ideas on how everything will fall into place.

"There's going to be other things coming down the pipe that's going to give PSN as a whole a competitive edge," he said. "What I will say is as a games designer I'm very excited about net connectivity."

He then talked about how Sony is on a mission to make gaming as much a part of modern culture as other things. Lemarchand likened this movement to art or literature.

The developer concluded his statements by saying that The PS3's computing power, enhanced connectivity, locative technology, and social networking system are going to be "completely transformative for game design."

» my thoughts.

I'm not biased towards either or, they both annoy me greatly. The stores I mean, Sony and Xbox live. I prefer Steam over both.

But anyway, this is a Sony company talking here. Naughty Dog is biased towards Sony no matter which is considered better or worse. Even if the whole company hated the Sony Store system, the suits at the top of the tower will always root for their own team.

» hey

I beleive both has their serious issues and are pretty bad in many things (though live slightly better), but STEAM? Steam is the worst game network, distribution, crap ***** and what else, system that has ever graced the PC gaming world. At first I thought of laughing but then I realized hw offensive that actually was becuz Steam takes it to an all new offensive level of *****.

» steam?

that must be some awesome service, ive never heard of it..... i love the ps3 but i do think the psn could improve an im not a big fan of 360 but i hear live is good, but this steam thing? for pc isnt there like a TON of different places to download games or w/e it is that u can DL from this steam place, whereas ps3/360 at least its one uniform place where i/we can go for what were lookn for. not some random site where we might find a demo or a full game that we want

» Steam?

Wow, steam couldn't even be in the same room with PSN or XBLive. I've been using steam for the past 3 years and it's not that great. Barely has that good of a friend support.

I don't think all 12 million of Live users are going to go to PSN unless a big epic RROD

» um

is it me or did he just admit that *right now* PSN DOES NOT have a "competitive edge"?

take that fanboys, not even sony thinks PSN can compete with live.

stop trying to misinterpret quotes to support your opinion. He just meant that CURRENTLY, PSN doesn't have many benefits over live, but upcoming features will put it at a better position than live.

Sony will get the head in online gaming over time if Microsoft, a multi-billion dollar company and not to mention richer than Sony, continues to charge a for Xbox Live.

The subscription method may work, but with the immense hardware failures of the 360, Microsoft should lower or drop the prices of XBL as a "Sorry" and focus on getting their hardware to run fine. For gods sake, I could mod the 360 to not get the rrod, why can't Microsoft?
