CTA Digital has announced a new peripheral that promises to add a whole new level of realism and excitement to first-person shooter games. Check out the PS3 assault rifle controller, a plastic rifle replica designed for hardcore FPS gamers.

According to the press release sent out by the company:

"Designed with modern warfare in mind, the Assault Rifle's trigger functions as the R1 button for realistic "reaction" game-play. Each OEM Sony PlayStation controller button is represented on the Assault Rifle, including the D-pad, PS button, start and select buttons, and clickable thumb sticks for strafing, running, steadying the weapon, and exploring the game environment. Gamers can pull the trigger with one hand and press the controller buttons with the other to shoot enemy combatants and move through the gaming environment. The Rifle comes with a removable scope and stock."

"The Assault Rifle also features a built-in speaker with realistic sound effects that can be turned on and off for a fun game play experience. By pulling the trigger, the Rifle emits single shot, three-shot burst, and fully automatic sound effects to complement the on-screen action that can be activated even when the Rifle isn't synced with the PlayStation 3."

The PS3 assault rifle controller will cost US$ 64.99 and will be available starting August 2nd.

Hah, this is so stupid. Maybe if it had Move integration it may then be good for Move supported games.

yeah it is pointless. you just hold the rifle to your chest and thats all. Like DVSDevise said, If it had move integration it would be good so you don't have to use the analog to aim. I think it would feel weird to try and aim with that thing also.

PHAIL!

So when did shooters become like guitar hero? Who wants to get confused remembering where X is on that gun... it's pointless. I'd be ashamed to own that.

i think toy guns for gaming is done unless they try to sinc it with the new move tech
lets face it no toy gun game has been successful since the original nes as nurtosaiyan said and i agree it is pointless

We are not toddlers we are gamers. It would have been OK if it was a move controller but it is not. It is a game pad shaped like a gun with toy gun sounds.

That product is fail without motion sense. Why would I want a big gun so I can just press trigger? I mean... add motion sensors and it's a deal. I highly doubt this product will be successful.

A gun you can't point? Whats the use of THAT? I'd hate to be caught playing MAG with thing. If it had actual cursor tracking, it would have been a different story. Oh well....
