Reviving the lost art of 2D fighting - The King of Fighters XII |
Ó
Calling 2D fighting "a lost art," Shane Bettenhausen of Ignition Entertainment took the opportunity to ramp up publicity for King of Fighters XII (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3), the latest in the SNK Playmore 2D-fighting franchise. There aren't many 2D fighters out there anymore, with the exception of a few loyal franchises, and King of Fighters is one of the last ones standing. With its release, King of Fighters XII will be duking it out with younger fighters in the industry, so let's see how the veteran will make his move.
King of Fighters XII key features:
- Sticks to the hand-drawn visual roots
- Controls go back to basics: two punch buttons, two kick buttons
- Move sets, costumes and stances also go back to basics, back to KoF '94 format
- Maintains emphasis on dashing, rolling, back-stepping and tactical jumping
- Online gameplay
- Eight-player lobbies
- Edit and upload replays
- PS3-exclusive online Clan system
Do note that since the venue is limited in capacity, they'll be screening cosplayers to those who are easily recognizable as King of Fighters characters. So if you've got a fat beer gut and you show up in your boxers with your hands wrapped up in toilet paper expecting to be recognized as Joe Higashi, err...don't.
Other console-specific features for King of Fighters XII:
- King of Fighters XII home console exclusive fighters revealed
- King of Fighters XII to have online mode, clan support, among others
- Japan getting King of Fighters XII-themed USB stick for PS3
