Retail reports say Fallout 3 modified for Australian release |
Ó
Folks in Australia were understandably dismayed at the news that Fallout 3 (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC) was refused classification, essentially keeping it from being sold in stores. A new report from IGN, however, seems to bring some hope that the game will still get a release in the continent, as the word from retail is that the game's getting itself some alterations to make it suitable for release. The alterations? Well, it was originally banned for making references to real drugs, such as morphine. The change that Bethesda may have done is probably a renaming of the mentions of the drug so as not to tick off censors.
So far, IGN has checked with the Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) and there doesn't seem to be any reinstatement of the game listed on the OFLC website. Fallout 3's distributor, Red-Ant, also hasn't commented on the report.
That said, we'll keep checking various sources to see if this news report holds true or not. Stay tuned.

I really hate censorship.............
the OFLC is absolutely backwards. i do not understand their denial of an R classification for video games. does somebody know the answer: when this game comes out in a few months will i be able to purchase it from overseas (eg. off of ebay) to back here in Australia? or is that illegal?
yes it is illegal, you cannot buy a denied classification title period. Of course there's almost no possibility of getting caught unless you constantly have cops visiting your house.
i mean specifically with getting it into australia, as in, will ebay not allow australian bidders to bid on the game from other countries, or will customs not allow it into the country if i buy it from play-asia.com, etc?
