Resident Evil 5 (PS3, Xbox 360) may mark the end of an era. In an interview with 1UP, Producer Jun Takeuchi says that we'll be seeing a reboot when the next game comes out. Here's an introduction to the interview by James Mielke:
In what is destined to be the first genuinely epic game of 2009, Resident Evil 5 is practically guaranteed to be the last of its kind, with the game's producer, Jun Takeuchi, assuring us that a reboot is in order for the inevitable Resident Evil 6.
That's not to suggest that there's anything wrong with the evil at hand. Quite the opposite; it's awesome fun, and we've beaten the game from beginning to end, and have a week's worth of detailed, insider info for you to enjoy.
"The last of its kind"? "A reboot is in order"? Are we in for completely new gameplay, or a completely new RE universe? Will we at least finally be able to shoot while mobile? We'll know by tomorrow, when 1UP releases the full interview with Takeuchi.

It'll most likely just get rid of the over-the-shoulder type control scheme and either do something new or go back to the old control style.
I think that the producer is referring to its genre.
The next game will probably be an FPS. O_o
so resident evil 6 isn't gonna suck as bad as 5 sucks thats good news but i have a feeling its probably still gonna suck it will probably suck even worse
Are they going to bring back the original gameplay? Are they actually gonna bring back the horror in survival horror?
I don't want a new RE Universe I just want to them to wrap the story up in a good satisfying way.
Maybe, if we are lucky, it'll be a Survival Horror game?
Or maybe a Game about Zombies.
Or a real Resident Evil Game.

I highly doubt we'll ever see another RE similar to RE1 through 0. A reboot could mean a genre change, but we don't need another F.E.A.R.-like FPS. Plus, RE is popular enough in America so there's no need for that.
A reboot in the story could be a good thing. With the same characters and personalities and just do things differently. As long as they don't try to follow the movie's storyline. I'm thinking something similar to a Casino Royale type reboot.
Unfortunately I'm expecting something along the lines of the Outbreak series or expanding with the co-op idea in RE5. Probably leeching off Left 4 Dead's success.
i was hopin they'd stick to the re4 gameplay for a while longer, i love the over the shoulder view.
I agree too, I also like not moving and shooting, I don't want this to become too main stream...
o man...I pray that capcom stops selling out and goes back to the way resident evil is supposed be...actually scary and includes more ZOMBIES..and less useless explosions..I mean I dont hate the new over the shoulder ACTION! packed shooter gameplay but that wasnt why i started liking resident evil, I just think games like re4 and re5 should have just been side projects like resident evil outbreak or dead aim..
I think it would be fantastic if they went back to the old scheme, even if only for a single game. i loved 1 through 3 and Code Veronica even more than 4!
they're gonna start again at the beginning with the mansion.
got to admit, the games have become a little confusing due to straying off with different infectons etc!
I personally would think it would be soo cool if they redid the first one again for this gen, but I wouldn't bet on it!!

Suckety Suck Suck.........KA-CHING! Get real man RE is a classic.........I think RE was the first game I played so long ago that was so scary fun! That and Silent Hill. Lol play THAT alone in a big house in the dark after watching a holloween marathon!
I'm guessing what they mean is that they will remove any bit of survival horror they managed to leave intact and turn the series into a full blown action game. Nice job Crapcom, lets see how many more franchises you manage to ***** up.
