Resident Evil 5 ad confirms death of iconic character - Image 1

At the last Tokyo Game Show, Capcom showed footage of Resident Evil 5 (PS3, Xbox 360), which ended with a shot of Jill Valentine's tombstone. If you remained hopeful that Capcom was just pulling your leg and didn't kill off Jill, I have some bad news for you.

The latest issue of Famitsu features a 2-page ad of Resident Evil 5, showing Chris Redfield paying his respects over Jill's tombstone. Capcom offers no hints on how she died, but seeing how they deemed it important enough to be the centerpiece of a 2-page ad, I'm guessing her death will play a part in the story of RE5.

Few deaths in the video game world actually matter in the world of video games, so it'd just be a shame if Capcom didn't elaborate on it. Then again, is she really dead? Ohhhh. I'll leave that up to the conspiracy theorists. Here's the vid from TGS showing Jill's tombstone for reference, since it wasn't "officially" released:

» WOW

that is one of the best video game trailers i have ever seen. it was edited like a movie trailer and it was long...but i wouldn't be surprised if this girl Jill shows up in a lab in umbrella alive and well at the end of the game.

The person in the hooded trenchcoat & mask is a woman..... need I say more?

Which leads to the image of Jill's grave, which I believe is a scene taken at the end of the game. So in other words Jill dies during the game.

Jill is probably the hottest looking female character in the RE series, and they go off and kill her. Well, we haven't really seen her since RE3 though.

» aww

jill was my fav RE female character :(

there better be a good reason why they killed her off, i bet she comes back working for wesker or somthing like that though

wesker has always been badass, but i think theyve taken it too far with him now...

» I think she is alive...

IN a way at least. I think that Wesker faked her death and infected her, that way he could take control of her and use Jill against Chris.

» pfft.

I predict a lame cliche where she'll just come back at a random point in the game. I'm sure Resident Evil 5 will be epic and all, and I'm def. gonna buy it, but still, this is obviously a setup for some plot twist.

"Zomg, we won't show you anything other than a tombstone. We know you've seen this in countless other games, animes, and movies, but we'll do it too now. NO ONE will expect Jill to just pop up and possibly be a playable character. What better way to reintroduce a character we haven't use in a main entry in the series since like 50 billion years ago?"

» relax...

If they manage to dig up Ada Wong from some most freaking likely not gonna survive situation and put her back in RE4 there is really nothing to stop them from bringing Jill back if necessary. Tombstone doesn't really mean anything.

It's a mag ad, man. Capcom wouldn't show it to the world if it was a spoiler.
