Reported Blu-ray problems after 1.54 update

Blu-ray DiscThe inquisitive Shane McGlaune from I4U News reported that after a firmware update, he was greeted with problems with the PlayStation 3 Blu-ray playback function. What's worse is that he found out that he's not the only one having this problems.

Of course the issue here isn't exactly new. There have been reports of it as early as the start of last month. What's worrying though is that it's already more than a month, and the Blu-ray playback problems have been around since Firmware 1.5. Shane McGlaune updated to firmware 1.54.

If Blu-ray is supposed to help lead the boost, shouldn't Sony be addressing these reported problems?

What about you folks? Any problems with PS3 Blu-ray playback?

I just love these mis-information being passed around as fact just because some blogger wrote it.

» WTF

THIS IS FU**ING BULL****. I've updated every new firmware and have been at 1.54 since it first released. I've seen over 7 Blu-Ray movies since. Never had any problem nor do I know anyone that does.

» agreed.

Same here. PS3 is flawless, much like my *****.

I actually do have a problem with BR playback. It seems that every disc I've played skips at 2 - 3 minute intervals. Its rather annoying...any suggestions?

» skipping

I have the same problem, It will skip a few times a movie but sometimes i can go the entire movie without problem. I called sony for it and they said they would fix it so if i keep having problems i can just send it in. Really good customer service.

I only have Talladega Nights, however I just put it in and watched it for a few minutes on random chapters and it worked just fine...

I have 15 Blu-ray movies. One skipped, I took that movie back for a replacement, and all playback has been fine ever since.

Hey QJ, if I make a blog that says my dog got pregnant after plugged an HDMI cable into my PS3, you think you can write a feature article on it? Okthxbye.

» wtf! BS news

no problems 4 me

by xophaser - 2007-03-14 17:38
» just fine

I rent from netflix and most blu-ray movies for the PS3 worked fine except for "Chronos". Must be a dent in the disc or something.

» xophaser

It was a problem with the master copy. The disc doesn't work with PS3. Look it up on google, the company that makes it will replace it free. I hear the customer service is top notch.

» no problems here

» Yall are too young and stupid.

You guys are dum.

The guy experiancing problems obviously was talking about the 1080i issues. Some people's tv's have a hard time with the 1080i signal and can only play at 480p. This is due to the crappy BD playing software Sony gives us.

Personally I can play 1080i movies fine, but i hate the fact they cant be downscaled from 1080p to 720p..... THAT is my biggest problem with Sony PS3 BD player

In the future Ill get a 1080p screen, but Sony really left us 720p uzers in the dust with this crapola.

» SONY please fix this problem

My PS3 freezes once in a while playing BD. Pauses then starts playing again. I am also having problems with the controllers not responding during game play now and again. Maybe the two issues are related some how. Maybe I should return my PS3 for a new one?

You mean that hardware scaler the PS3 supposedly has won't work? Oh yeah you have to rely on sony to implement it. Good luck waiting.....

Yea, I'll get around to calling Sony one day soon. Thanks.

» Own over 15 blu-rays

And I've never experienced a problem with it. Works fantastic and I love it. If you guys haven't picked up Bikini Destinations off Amazon, you most definitely should! Anyhow....I've never experienced controller problems or loss of signal either. Nothing but applauds from me. You can tell it is a high quality piece of equipment.

Pick your discs up off of the floor when you aren't using them.

» well

i have a couple of blue-ray movies and after 1.51 update some chapters are slower to change,2-3 seconds to change. 1.54 has not fixed the problem.

before you go screaming that the ps3 firmware is perfect consider that some ppl might be using the bdplayer under diff settings. before you post how well your BR's are playing please post what setting and set-top you are using.

i am playing my BR movies on a HDCP compliant 720p Samsung.

for every person who has a blu-ray problem, there are probably like 50 other people with no problem. There will always be a problem with at least one system.

» Blu-ray playback issues

The problem described is real. I have a PS3 hooked up to a 50" 1080p Sony SXRD LCD TV. No matter if the disc is perfect (brand new) or looks like it's been used as a coaster (Netflix) it will freeze up for about 3-5 seconds 1-2 times during playback.

I just downloaded the latest upgrade (can't remember which one at this point) and watched one movie without issue. I'll keep my fingers crossed because it is extremely annoying.

by Andy - 2007-04-05 10:37
» Me too

I have PS3 hooked up to Sony 32LX1 1080i Flat Panel hdmi to DVI-HDCP and NAD surround system . I have a brand new copy of black hawk down that won't play - everything else is working flawlessly (games / data playback of trailers - e.g. bond 1080p trailer)

The Blu-ray disc gives me a blank screen and the system seems to hang...

Fuming!!

» My PS3 skips

I am having issues with my PS3 doiing 2 things while playing DVDs:

1. It skips to the next chapter (probably 1-2 times per movie)

2. The DVD menu (the one you get by pressing triangle) pops up on the screen randomly.

The latest upgrade (1.60 I think) has not helped
