Report: Sony to suffer 1.1 billion loss - Image 1More rough times ahead for Sony. The company, which estimated a US$ 2.2 billion profit for the year, is now expected to post a loss of US$ 1.1 billion, according to Nikkei business daily.

This comes after a string of ever-worsening news for Sony. Last October, they already pulled down their operating profit from 475 billion down to 200 billion. This was followed by news that they will be laying off 16,000 employees.

While signs point to the PlayStation group being unaffected by the problems of their parent company, Sony might decide to take some drastic action if the boat rocks any more violently. The PSP isn't exactly brimming with new games, and the PS3 still isn't performing as well as expected. Hopefully though, things will start to turn in their favor as the year goes on.

"The PSP isn't exactly brimming with new games, and the PS3 still isn't performing as well as expected."

The PlayStation division does not have everything to do with the profit Sony makes. Just because a billion dollar entertainment and technology company is losing money does not mean that its gaming division is directly involved. It may be a contributing factor, but only a small one at that. Sony does make things like mp3's, TV's, DVD players, discs and HT Systems you know! And I would imagine that these have more competition on the market that the PSP and PS3 do.

Well deserved...

Ever since I got a broken PS2 at launch, that they wanted to charge me $100 to fix, I've boycotted everything Sony. People are finally realizing that they put out subpar products and charge far more than the product is worth. Sony has gotten by on their name for far too long and this news puts a smile onmy face. Its time they stepped it up and put out quality products. I only feel bad for the employees who are losing their job. FX[]K SO/\Y !

I have a lot of respect for Sony...

... and honestly my PSP is my favorite system because of the potential it has through exploits. I have seen the trends the industry has made throughout the last year, and it seems to me that Sony, despite the trouble it has run into recently, will have a better year in 2009.

THATs

Thats the exact dame thing they said when 2008 started

THATs

Them not me. It's expected for a company to say that. For the consumer to think it and believe it is a completely different story. I'm not saying I'm right, because there could be a lot of unforeseen things going on, but I am saying that this is the way I feel.
