Red Bull becomes first brand on PlayStation Home - Image 1Red Bull has been announced to be the first brand to build a presence in PlayStation Home.

They built their own tropical island, which features an aeroplane racing game, which is based on their real world Red Bull Air Race series.

Though Red Bull is no stranger to video games ads (remember the PS1's Wip3out series?) I'm still surprised to find it's the first brand to make its name known in the virtual world. Says Red Bull UK's brand manager:

The game gave us the first opportunity to recreate in the gaming world what we try to do in the real world, which is to facilitate interaction, to give people stories, memories, experiences and a really good opportunity to interact with the brand. It's an easy environment for brands to take that first step into gaming.

We're likely to see more brands crop up once the service opens up its beta. I just hope I won't see ads every time I turn my virtual head.

heh, *facepalm*

"I just hope I won't see ads every time I turn my virtual head." What did you think Home was truly for? though dont get me wrong, im still looking forward to it for all the rest... but damn... if the proper version will be like the currently closed beta ( in terms of ads everywhere you look ) then damn... damn, damn, damn is all i can say.

Their already everywhere 8O

Home is filled with ads but they're all for games, so maybe the open beta will be the first step in product ads like Sony stuff and other brands being shoved down our virtual throats. I really hope this doesn't ruin home for everyone. Best of luck for all. XD

So what if there are ads

As long as the ads aren't intrusive, like I HAVE to watch a commercial before I can access a building or something, I don't care how many posters and billboards they put up. Everywhere we go in real life we are inundated with ads so I don't see the big deal. .

It's awesome

The ads are involved and witty, and who doesn't like Red Bull? Think about it people. These ads are made for gamers. They are made to be enjoyable. A flying Red Bull plane - sign me up! I'm looking forward to seeing companies compete for the best Home space. I bet some would even go as far as give REAL freebies.

...

Just as long as they dont turn into QJ with *****Sense all over the place then it's fine.

Ads are everywhere

But in home, they are non-intrusive and at many times actually quite enjoyable to watch or interact with. I don't think I could ever say that about any other advertisements out their other than the rare commercials that are funny, like during the Super Bowl.

"The ads are involved and witty, and who doesn't like Red Bull?" I don't. Stuff tastes like ***** until you put Jägermeister into it, and then it's barely tolerable.
