RE game designer wants a horror game in 3D

3dpeeps 3D is steadily making its way into gaming right now, with more and more games coming with some form of 3D support. For Resident Evil game designer Shinji Mikami, that'd be great news since he'd finally be able to make the 3D horror game he's always wanted.

"When it comes to my personal desires, I'd like to make a true-3D horror game, something where you'd use glasses like in the Avatar film," Mikami told Famitsu. "It's been my goal since the original Resident Evil to be the first in the industry to make a 3D game. There needs to be a large 3D television-owning userbase before that can happen, but I always like trying out new things first."

While Resident Evil 5 has already taken a step in that direction for the PC, it seems he wants to take it to the consoles. With a PS3 3D firmware update in the future, he'll have a bigger opportunity to do so. For now, he's busy setting up Tango, his own development studio.

Someone I agree with! The first resident evil I ever played was number 2 for the dreamcast, and because of that, I've made it a personal mission to play every single RE I could get my hands on (except any of the shooter ones). RE 4 was a great game, no doubt, but it was a disappointment, as it wasn't a real RE game.

They tried to flog 3D to us 20 odd years ago, it was crap then and it's still crap. Just another gimmick much like when HDTV's first appeared oh but guess what.. they weren't actually proper HD, strange nobody made a noise about that either !

20 years is a long time. The tech is getting better and better. It's no gimmick anymore.

Motion controls were also crap 10 years ago, now we have the Wii, which is the best selling console right now.

could you have picked a worse example

the wii motion capabilities, sucks, its a bit better than other things weve seen in the high street but it is still very old inaccurate tech

they were selling wiis, on stands in shopping centers 10+years ago (minus the internet)

I'm not really excited about the 2nd coming of 3d, but I don't know if to think Mikami's idea of 3d horror games is that of a genius or a sick person XDDD. In the near future if you want to traumatize a little kid you'll only need a PS3 and a copy of RE5 -- and the 3d glasses... sounds kind of expensive. XD

Um Shinji Mikami was not behind Resident Evil 5, he quit Capcom right after he found out Capcom ported or remade RE4 for the PS2, he left to another Capcom studio but then Capcom shut it down and he left to form his own company.

You will notice Shinji mikamis name is not in Resident Evil 5 credits or anything, thats because he quit Capcom YEARS AGO, mainly angry at Capcom for what they did, Capcom cheated him. Capcom hired another person to helm the Resident Evil series.

Jun Takeuchi and Inafune, the Megaman creator replaced Shinji Mikami, right after RE4 came out, so basically Shinji never made RE5 in anyway shape or form.

He never did RE5, Lose In Nightmare, Desperate Escape, RE Umbrella Chronicles, Darkside chronicles and all the RE games after RE4 came out on PS2, WERE NOT MADE BY SHINJI MIKAMI!

Shinji is no longer the creator of RE series.

Go check out REUC, REDS, REDS FOR DS, AND RE5, his name is not on any of them.

Thats kinda the reason why RE5 has a bad story and all the characters personalities were changed at the last minute, this is also the reason why UC and Darkside were not correct in alot of areas.
