Paris-based publisher Ubisoft has announced over press wire that development of the latest installment of their successful Rainbow 6 franchise, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2, is already near completion. The sequel to Rainbow Six Vegas (Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, PC) is scheduled for release come March next year, and its expected to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the Tom Clancy novel it's based from.

Since it first came out in 1998, Rainbow Six has gained much prestige through the years and has cemented its status as an innovator in the first-person shooter genre after putting a focus on stealth and tactics than run and gun. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 will not be an exception to that rule.

Aside from a having a higher visual quality, fans of the popular franchise will be glad to know that Rainbow Six Vegas 2 offers a fresh perspective to the classic squad-based game with new and intense solo campaigns that offers a wider avenue for tactical approach around Sin City. Not only that, the game is also expected to conquer new territory in terms of co-op and as well as adversarial game modes while at the same time offering solo and multi-player mode interaction unseen in past Rainbow Six titles.

With the coming release of Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Ubisoft once again aims to raise the FPS bar for the tactically apt, though as of press time we haven't a clue on what specific platforms it will be releasing on. More on that as they develop.

» not again

why cant they go back to the good old days where you actualy had to use tactics in rainbow six. vegas ruined the series in my opinion. They made it to run and gun style instead of a tacticle shooter. Get rid of the third person view when taking cover and you will solve one major area of the game that needs correcting.

» vegas was and still is great

I liked it, it was for me also the first time that I was forced to get it right or get wasted as the AI was smart enough not to keep re spawning in the same place therefore making it impossible to just run shoot and seek cover from memory.

I recently played through parts of the game again and it still felt fresh and its graphics are still solid even when going back to it after games like Halo 3 COD4 and Bioshock.

I also look forward to the release of Part2.

I'm usually not a tatical kinda guy, I prefer my run and gun but vegas made me like the genre. I love the game and can't wait for the sequel.

» vegas isnt realy

vegas realy isnt that tacticle. the old games took skill. the third person view made it so you could sit in an openiong and see beyond it witho0ut putting yourself at risk. in the older games of the series you had to expose yourself if you wanted to see what behind an opening. That took real skill.

» I can't wait

I have played and owned all of the Rainbow Six games in one way or another since the first one. In light of my recent 8600GT XXX edition purchase I bought Vegas and it was incredible on full settings.

Vegas still provides the numerous tactical challenges and oppurtunities of the Rainbow Six series yet it is more real time. In the other Rainbow six games like the origional It was a lot like pic your loadout and hope it works when now it is closer to pick you pick your loadout but are not limited to it and/or the attachments you are using. I like the ammo boxes placed throughout the game.

I can't wait for Vegas 2 in light of the first one being so good. Casinos are great tactical challenges!
