PSN update: Folding@Home bumped up to version 1.31 |
Ó
It's not just the PlayStation Store that's bringing in updates, it seems. Thanks to a tip from reader yoti93, we're letting you guys know that Sony Computer Entertainment has updated the Folding@Home service to version 1.31.
According to the company, this update aims to improve the software's operations for handling network errors related to the uploading and downloading of work. Quoting SCEI's official explanation:
When communication with Stanford UniversityÂ’s servers is unsuccessful, the application will now try an effective method of attempting to reconnect based on the specific error condition.
To avail of update 1.31, all you have to do is to restart your Folding@Home. The application will then prompt you to update to the latest version release. Drop by again in case we pick up any more updates.

I am still to worried to do any folding. Running the PS3's cpu at 100% non stop sounds a bit risky. Has anybody actually killed a PS3 by folding?
nah man its cool. i;ve run it for days at a time and my triple's running just fine. anyways, if your ps3 gets too hot and the fans can't handle it, it shuts itself of and blows the fans until it cools down. my friend started it once while it was in a closed space and we left it paused for a while when we went to blockbuster, and when i came back it was in that mode. a little scary at first, but good to know that it has a self defense mechanism that i dont think the other consoles have. but yeah, F@H is just fine +P
I've been running F@H 24/7 since the first day they released it. It was nice to unload the task from my PC.
Not a single problem.
i've left my ps3 on for a week (full 7 days) on folding@home when i went out of town and when i came back it was still running perfectly. alittle warm, yea, but it was still fine. you don't have to worry that much if its for a few hours or even a day. just don't go over 7 days because i've only done 7 days and i'm not planning on ever leaving my ps3 on for more than that.
I have mine set to start folding after 15 minutes of inactivity on ps3. I havent turned mine of since I got it at launch except during a few bad thunderstorms. My PS3 is always either folding, playing games, or playing movies, and I have yet to have any problems with it at all. It's never even overheated and gone into the protected state. folding team 45365
I just wanted to put a shout out there and say GOOD JOB to anyone running F@H!!!!!
The PS3 has completely turned this entire research venture around and LEAPS and BOUNDS have been surpassed.
its not a 360. ps3 cant overheat.
Now they've fixed it, I'm not stuck at 8 completed work units no more. It used to complete a w.u. then fail to connect and upload the information, so it had to download and work on another unit.
Lastnight I disabled my Folding@Home from starting every 10 minutes of no activity since almost everytime I quit the app it gives me three beeps then restarts the console. Plus the update (to 1.31) was taking like an hour to download.
I have been doing a lot of folding.
But can anyone tell me if they have done anything with the information.
I would do more folding but it once crashed and I don't want to waste power when all it does is crash. I think the program has become more stable now but I don't want my parents to get annoyed when they see the power bill.
I think I'll try to use it a little more.
That was a joke, right? Seeing as how countless 360's overheat and give off the red ring of death. Whereas the PS3 is hardly ever reported to have overheated. Even then 99% of them were abused by the owner from stuffing in a enclosed space.
They have made major break throughs in alzheimer's research (as well as a lot of other research). Because of them a little pill is available that helps A LOT in the early stages. Thanks the PS3, they have tweaked that pill a little to make it more effective.
