PS3's Online User's Guide now up

As of writing, lines are already forming in Japanese retail stores and hardcore gamers are already bracing the cold Japanese night just to get their hands on a PS3. Don't you be envious of them campers because if it's any consolation, the PLAYSTATION 3's Online User Guide recently opened. So you could still get up close and personal with that lean, next-gen gaming machine.

So we went and checked out the online manual and the first thing that most of us really want to see is the Remote Play section. And just as we reported, your PSP should be sporting a firmware 3.00 or later for you to take advantage of this feature. There were a lot of other things that we checked out such as the PLAYSTATION Store section, Music section, Friends, and the System Update part of the manual under the Settings.

Go ahead and check it out, that's what the 'Read' link is for! If you find something interesting, share them to us through your comments. But if you're already finished reading the manual and the PS3's release in your place is still too far, maybe you oughta read this featured PS3 article by our fellow blogger, Ian C.

After perusing the online users guide I've noticed something interesting.

Under Friends/Friends List/checking status there's a picture of the kitty avatar who is currently listed as playing a game called TETATOS(cube)

Does anyone know what this game is?

If you go on this part of the site http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/osinstall.html it tells you that you can install third party os systems by just putting in a cd!

This website is amazing is outlines everything you can do with the ps3 xmb. Here are a few things that i think make the ps3 a computer and not a console:

1) Muliple logins

2) Can install third party operating system

3) Can save as many operating systems as you want to the PS3 HDD and load them all from it and set any one you prefer to default, so you dont have to keep the PS3's XMB.

4) Can copy music files directly from Audio disks to PS3 HDD

5) Can apply sercurity patches from virus' and spyware

6) Has full online browser cabability, and wont download anything that the PS3 knows is a virus such as .exe files

7) Can link any bluetooth device and share data with it

8) Can run multiple online browsers

9) Can download items from any page on the internet to a file on your ps3 OS

10) Has MSN type friend list

11) Can associate your PS3 wallet and internet user account to your PS3 user.

add that the ability to swap the hardrive for any off the shelf 2.5 serial ATA drive. Just read it over at kotaku.

I think 9 is wrong. Harrison mentioned in an interview that you will only be able to download content from the PStore. Although you can stream content from websites like MYSPACE.

ok i would like to add

12)Ability to swap the HDD for any off the shelf 2.5'' ATA drive.

Also gordynyc thats for the updates about the HDD. Also it is possible to download items from different website through the browser, as if you have a psp you can right click certain pictures, videos or music and save them to the psp folders.

There is a format option which will most likely make any sort of 2.5 seial ATA drive able to act as your new PS3 HDD.
