More news from the PS3 scene today as homebrew dev KaKaRoToKS, with the help of several other devs in the PS3 community, recently announced the upcoming release of PS3MFW Builder, a modified firmware project for the PS3.

What does it do exactly? Well, according to the post at ps3mfw.com, the sole purpose of the project is develop a "customizable tool that creates modified firmware for Playstation 3 with many great features not available in current solutions." It will provide a framework "where each firmware modification task is an independent plugin with access to an API that facilitates the modification process. One important feature is that the project will be entirely open source, as opposed to every other MFW released to date."

i have to disagree with this "today news" the info has been out what since monday or earlier if i recall. im more interested about the mkv and ntfs support project, oh and today news kmew has lauched his l2 v9 patcher aloows you to install other os asbestos...

You see, I was silly enough to update to OFW 3.56... I am aware that it will be quite difficult for me to upgrade to CFW, right? Because I will not be able to install CFW unless I buy a new Playstation 3 system that has OFW 3.55 or earlier versions of OFW in order to upgrade to CFW 3.56??? Thanx.

I might poke around it for a while. I like the concept of customization. That is something Sueny won't like. It kinda reminds me of Redsn0w. Hopefully they don't include the original PS3 firmwares, that way it stays pretty much legal.

So they have learned from the iphone hackers and finally created a "substrate". That's a smart move, but making the code public means Sony will be able to look at it and find new ways to detect modified consoles apart from the application log.

Apple does the same thing patching their iOS with every new version. But... Apple has been beaten, and so will Sony.
