PS3 Wireless Keypad pre-orders now open |
Ó
They previously said it was scheduled for "an early December release," and now, we get an actual release date! According to a product listing on GameStop, the peripheral is now available for pre-order and is scheduled for release on December 1.The PS3 Wireless Keypad is set to fix all your text and mouse input woes - just attach it onto your DualShock 3 or SIXAXIS controller and you're good to go.
The keypad comes in QWERTY format and comes with shortcut keys for all your PSN and Home needs. Navigate through menus with its unique touch pad feature, instead of having to scroll through items one by one.
Internet browsing, email, and instant messaging will be so much easier, that is if you cough up US$ 50 (or more accurately, US$ 49.99) to get it from Gamestop. Yet another reason to go broke this Christmas just showed up, and I've got to stop tempting myself. Really.
Other stuff to splurge on:
- Rapture for cheap: PS3 BioShock selling at US$ 27.99 at Costco
- Happy Holidays: 80GB PS3 to be bundled with Ratchet, Casino Royale
- Thumbs on the ready: PS3 Wireless Keypad set for early December release

I can't see where the touchpad is. I heard it was going to be touch-sensitive buttons which was activated by pressing a toggle button, but then I heard it was skipped. Is it back in? How does it work?
No sale for me. I think it stinks they didn't have it take power from the controller. Just another damn device to charge.
While I think the keyboard itself is good and is in a good place, they should have followed the 360's keyboard power form factor.
the main key area is touch sensitive and can be toggled to be used as a mouse.
Key Features:
* QWERTY keypad designed for fast, thumbs-only typing
* Touch pad mode turns the main key area into a touch pad. In this mode, user can slide her finger on this area to move the cursor on the screen and tap to enter
* Dedicated short cut keys provide instant access to text-based communication applications on the PLAYSTATION®Net work
* Automatic pairing with the PS3%u2122 system via a USB cable
* Charges by connecting it directly to the PS3%u2122 system using a USB cable
The buttons are close together so you can glide your fingers across like a touch-pad mouse.
Picture 9 TV's in an 3x3 array on a wall. Each TV makes up a certain piece of a video. From far, you can see one full video, but close, you see the individual TVs forming the video. Same thing applies with the keypad.
i hate my madcatz thumbpad but one thing i like about it is that i dont have to attach it to my controller for it do work.. i never do.. it being on top of the controller really gets in the way.. especially for a shooter (MGO).. also.n i can go a month without charging it.. dont even remember the last time i charged it.. but anyways..n i really want to get this. but only have $40 on me at the moment.. i think ill just buy a cheap game before thanksgiving.
I got the touch pad pro or whatever from logitech (it's a full keyboard mind you) and I love it. I can't even imagine getting rid of it.
*shakes head*
Hum...well, if the battery lasts THAT long, then I guess it wont be much of an issue.
Thanks for the info, I'll check out that spec.
If it took power from the controller wouldn't you have to charge it more often anyway?
No. Of the couple people I know with the 360 keypad, they do not charge their controllers any more often.
However, that's not the point. I have a 4 controller charge station for the controller. This would add ANOTHER charge cable to the already mess my entertainment center is.
"Just another damn device to charge."
Key terms there is ANOTHER.
This is the exact kind of crap I'm trying to avoid:
