The PlayStation 3 is once again adding another set of clothes to its already impressive wardrobe. Sony's next gen home video game console will reportedly be present at the Office 2.0 Conference to showcase ways to harness its power in an office setting.

The PS3 will be used to power the flat panel displays at the Office 2.0 Conference as a proof of concept. According to a press release we received today, the console will be used to show the conference's agenda and special announcements by fetching pages from the Web over a Wi-fi network.

"We are always looking for innovative devices that enable office productivity," said Ismael Ghalimi, Intalio CEO and producer of the Office 2.0 Conference. "The PS3 running Firefox on Linux is a perfect example of a device that empowers technology in the living room."

A video game console being used for office productivity. Who'da thunk it? The Office 2.0 Conference runs from September 5 until September 7 in San Francisco, CA.

hmm

I didn't read the article, only the title... so I'm gonna just jump to the conclusion. WTF PS3 for Office productivity. Wouldn't all the CEO/President/employees will half ass the job and play games instead.

???

No where in this article does it say that Sony is necessarily involved in this. "We are always looking for innovative devices that enable office productivity," said Ismael Ghalimi, Intalio CEO and producer of the Office 2.0 Conference. Ismael Ghalimi, I think this is the guy that is introducing the ps3 to this conference, but the article does not clarify.

Other uses.

They actually don't know if its been posted on QJ but have used the PS3 to man a unmanned vehicle as the AI. Which makes you wonder about the whole PS3 can't do AI thing.

Hha!

This is good news ( For Sony at least ), this will encourage people with an office background to invest in a PS3 as office equipment. So, the PS3 will be a great games machine, HiDef Player, server, Multimedia system, computer and now an office peripheral, cool. Oh, and I think the PS3 is fully capable of producing remarkable AI, it's just a matter of pursuading the dev's to sort themselves out and stop moaning about what they can and can't do.

It can do it all ladies and gentlemen

That's right baby. I've already installed Linux on my PS3 and it works great. Nothing like having your desktop on a 50 inch monitor. lol Play SNES games on your PS3 with an emulator running on Linux. What more do you want, and don't even try to say good games because we got them and there's more on the way. You can hook up a printer to it too and print your documents or even your pics from the regular OS. I love my PS3, I also have a 360 and it's a great machine but it doesn't compare to my PS3 in versatility or reliability.

this kind of things

Well, a ps3 is for playing games. I dont really think this thing will get more marketshare or somehting like that. its sad to see this kind of things. Noone gave a piece of -insert bad word here- with linux on the ps2 why they keep doing this?

idiots

Don't you guys read AND comprehend? It's a PROOF OF CONCEPT. Their using it to display information on LCD's. And it doesn't sound like SONY has anything to do with this. "The PS3 will be used to power the flat panel displays at the Office 2.0 Conference as a proof of concept. According to a press release we received today, the console will be used to show the conference's agenda and special announcements by fetching pages from the Web over a Wi-fi network." The point is the PS3 is small, compact, easy to setup device, that COULD be used for multimedia presentations. NOT running office applications. It is has ALLOT of processing power so you could show some really good stuff, in your sales pitch. Like Dragons eating CEO's. :-)
