PS3 Slim? - Image 1

Another PS3 Slim listing has been spotted, this time on Swedish online retail site, DiscShop. As with the Amazon.de listing, this one doesn't really shed any light on the long-rumored revision for the Sony PlayStation 3 console.

The listing actually comes across as a preemptive listing in case the PS3 Slim does get announced at GamesCom. A Google translation shows a note saying "specifications are not complete and confirmed." It does have a speculated release date of Autumn 2009, though you should take that with a grain of salt. Oh, and don't mind the PS3 Slim image that's featured so prominently on the site. It's the same one as the fan-made pic that was on Amazon.de.

Sony's GamesCom conference, which is widely believed to include an announcement for the Slim, is scheduled for Tuesday, August 18, at 10:00 AM PST, 1:00 PM EST. Gamers in Europe can catch it at 7:00 PM CEST, 6:00 PM BST.

rumors

what they actually say is that it's just rumors and they put it up on the site just because there is so many rumors out there so it most likely will be one: Google translate: "After many rumors, it appears now that that is really a small version of the Playstation 3 this autumn. More information will be as soon as we got more confirmation on the new smaller PlayStation 3 machine. Specifications are not complete and confirmed. More info at the release." BTW: FIRST!

I actually like the look of a PS3. I dont see why so many people want this "slim" version. I love how the current PS3 looks, feels, its weight... made me feel like I got my moneys worth right away. I have a 60gb version though... too bad the newer ones got dubbed down a bit. I use all 4 USB slots alot.... and I love the card readers. I have a 8GB SD chip in there to back things up or to play music on through PC-to-PS3. So yeah I love it the way it is. I wouldnt trade mine for a PS3 slim even if it was a replicate of the same features.

I for one don't think there is a PS3 Slim. I think there is a redesign with the aim to add features and to reduce the price rather than slimming down the PS3 or make it lighter. How many people are actually carrying their PS3 to a friend? Most multiplayer games are online-only now. PS: Maybe the new PS3 will have BC. And added that to a pricecut (299 €) it should finally beat Xbox 360 saleswise. If it still doesn't, then nothing will.

"How many people are actually carrying their PS3 to a friend?" I do. It's boring playing the split-screen version of a game so I just bring my ps3 over.

it

doesn't help when you say "this is coming from som1 who doesnt have one." makes you see kinda narrowed mind. and what happened to the equation slim + sexy?

Fat PS3 scratches too easily. As for cost I don't care because I understand that video game consoles are not supposed to be free...

Actually, alot of people think it is about the aesthetic to a degree. But it's really about preference.

"Sony just lost one of their advantages in PS3, its realy UGLY." The fat ps3 is good looking? It looks like some crappy, novelty, made in the 70's/80's ornament thats made out of cheap horrible shiney plastic.

@ stealth

i was commenting on why someone would want a ps3 slim over a the original size ps3...

by Master Chef - 2009-08-17 17:34:32
I like it too

The more the console looks like a tank the better. I liked the look of the Xbox the most last gen, and this gen the PS3 looks the best IMO. Bigger and heavier equals more badass

@truk Yeah your probably right actually. As far as everything else... I had my Playstation 3 shielded for $99 right when I got it (I got lucky and got a brand new 60gb PS3 long after it was done being sold out) yeah so thats what actually was the seller to me. I had a PS2 before... so BC mattered. I noticed how easily it could be scratched so I had it shielded. If anyone else wants to do this, It was done from http://www.zagg.com/. It actually made it shinier and I've had it over a year and I dont have one scratch, and you cant even notice theres a shield on it. I cant even notice, and I know theres one there. So If your concerned, you can order it at that site (it should be cheaper, I paid for installation so it came up to around $100). @Master Chef Im with you man, I love it being a tank. Even with the auto disc tray... it really makes you feel like you got your moneys worth right away. Aside from it being a beast, its actually alot quieter then a 360 (or how loud the 360's use to be anyway).

@FelisCatusLover Thats why id rather just post my opinions rather then come off and say what I think are "Facts". Its hard to know the facts, because we really dont know whats going on until it happens. But id rather avoid saying something and getting a reply like that lol.
