» Thank you Sony

While I was hoping for some more gloss it does look OK. I'm sure as heck picking one up.

by skidz - 2009-08-18 07:26
» hmm

Ugly as expected, they really cant figure out how to make a good looking machine.

Other than that it looks like they took out the card readers making the PS3 Slim far less like a media device.

Still only has 256mb of that old XDR ram from way back when.

Still only has a 2x blu-ray reader, so it looks like long installs will still be a problem.

Same old PS3 in a different shell, but with even less!

Good job Sony, screw your customers up the butt one more time will ya, and we all know they will.

by eaglebaize - 2009-08-18 07:28
» xD

Lol no offense to him, but Jack sure blinks A LOT!

Anyways, I'm not going to be picking one of these slims up since I've already got a PS3, but for people who currently don't have one, it's nice that this product has been confirmed. Only thing is that it looks kinda... cheap to me? I'm afraid of upsetting someone with that statement, but I think it could look better with a more glossy appearance and some chrome. On the brighter side, I'm sure it'll show less dust and fingerprints.

by skidz - 2009-08-18 07:31
» Oh I just have to add to this.

They are charging for the vertical stand so if you want the PS3 Slim to stand up, enjoy paying $30. They also removed the install other OS so no more Linux. I don't think you can even remove the hard-drive anymore without opening the whole unit.

The only thing I have seen added thus far is the ability to use a Bravia remote control on it.

by Eclipze_ - 2009-08-18 07:35
» Well

Most of the things you could do from the card readers can also be done from the USB ports, so I don't see a problem in removing them. I'm not sure why you would care if they updated the Blu-ray or RAM because this is just a new shell like you said. Don't think anyone expected new features or specs to come rolling in with this.

The Machine doesn't even look that bad in my opinion. Reminds me of a PS2. I'm not too worried about looks however because I usually just play games on it, not stare at my PS3 all day.

Did he say "and it will also haz"? xD

» it looks

like the "fake pics" i thought sony would have made it look a little better. it looks like a DVD player now.

First you see the price is too expensive now you're seeing it's too ugly.

by Musev - 2009-08-18 08:37

£250 isn't bad. its almost half what the release price was.

by f31j - 2009-08-18 08:39
» ....

wow, aren't you in a good mood. It's lighter, smaller, bigger HDD, $100 cheaper. What's there not to like? This is called competition and it's good for everyone. If you can't stand it, stop posting around here. And why are you complaining about the Card reader now, when it was taken out like a year ago? And how exactly does missing a card reader make it a "far less" media device? Also, not everyone feel the need to make a ps3 stand vertically. And I'll bet it will be part of a package later on anyways. It is a far less "optional cost" comparing to say....$100 wifi adapter. That's just my opinion.

by BryanNitro - 2009-08-18 08:48
» Still to expensive.

I got my 60g when they first came out for $300 "I traded a Little Honda 50 which I paid $300 for" then I bought the second on during the second year cool-down so people were selling PS3's left and right and got another 60g for $200 and as of right now I'm thinking about selling them because Sony isn't going up they are going sideways I'm tired of fooling my self. there are 6 good games there are more but I'd rather play them on my 360 for much less.

Need to get a damn job.

by sickofitall - 2009-08-18 08:58

many people were saying the SLIM was a fake. Well now we all know it is very real!

by TheRockness - 2009-08-18 09:19
» It was inevitable.

Slim psONE, Slim PStwo, Slim PSP, Slim PS3, anyone want to take bets that there will be a Slim PSP2 and Slim PS4?

by ISOHaven - 2009-08-18 09:37
» WTF!?!?!?!?!

I'm interested in its power consumption. If it's a good bit lower then I'll pick one up seeing as how I run F@H 24/7/365. The new unit might pay for itself over the next year AND BE QUIETER!!!

by TheRockness - 2009-08-18 09:44
» ...

Excessive blinking is a sign of someone telling a lie.

I'm just throwing that out there. I don't thin he's a liar.

The product might look cheap, but just don't throw it around and you'll be ok.

by Echo307 - 2009-08-18 10:08
» ISO

I don't know the actual number but it supposedly consumes 34% less power than the previous unit. Maybe if you found out the stock specs you could do the math and see if it's worth it.

by Masemune - 2009-08-18 10:16
» Pathetic

First the price, now bashing on how ugly it is?

BTW... Even the Current PS3 are $100 off so go buy one..

- Quit Complaining >.>

by phiyuku - 2009-08-18 10:22
» ? complaning about XDR

If anything I would complain it still has the 256mb old GDDR3 ram from way back then. XDR is an improved Rambus Ram not some old thing. Benchmark testing has shown it is faster than GDDR3 Ram.

by Seoulfood - 2009-08-18 10:27
» look,

People bashing this. They are fanboys. Straight up. If you don't like the new PS3, then go buy an old one for 100 cheaper. What's bad about this? How many people actually even care about Linux on their PS3? Were people really thinking they were gonna beef up the internals? I mean come on, it's smaller, lighter, and cheaper. Good, good, good. Though some might miss the glossy sheen.

by phiyuku - 2009-08-18 10:27
» Btw xbox 360

has GDDR3 ram if you did not know and XDR Ram is supposed to be a competitor to GDDR4 ram just to show you where it is in the food chain.

by YAMI ANUBIS X - 2009-08-18 10:32
» I told you all since May, this was REAL but none of you believed me.

Because you guys thought it looked ugly and chinese PS3 knock off, REMEMBER THAT GUYS!

REMEMBER when you guys said that this PS3 looked like a Chinese knock off and called it a Polystation 3, dont try to fight me with this, I remember you saying this.

I OWN YOU ALL, EVEN THE WEBSITE!

Oh and to the guy whose talking to the complainer, the complainer is just hating.

by Silver-Tiger - 2009-08-18 10:35
» ...

@skidz: Your complete post is BS.

Ugly is your opinion. That's a completely subjective issue

Card Readers had been taken out since the 40gig PS3s. Why do you complain? there much better card readers which read more formats out there for 10 bucks.

They couldn't increase the RAM size because that would make later PS3 games imcompatible with the old PS3. And XDR RAM is actually the fastest RAM out there. Show me other RAM with a frequency of 3.2 (!) GHz.

The only real argument of you is the Blu-Ray drive. Yes, I hoped for a faster drive, too. But developers like Naughty Dog showed that they can do amazing things with the slow drive. Uncharted 1 looks incredible and runs completely from the BD.

by Master Chef - 2009-08-18 10:59
» Huh?

People are fanboys just for stating their opinions about the new system? I think it looks fugly, sue me. Doesn't affect me tho, I already have two fat 120 gig models.

The price drop is great tho, maybe sometime in the future I'll pick up another so I can play blu-rays on all my TVs.

by Seoulfood - 2009-08-18 11:00
» :)

hahahaha, that was funny.

Anyways, I kind of wonder how they'll sell all those 80GB's out there. The slim is better in almost every way and is the same price. At least the higher model comes with games..?

by demonfreak - 2009-08-18 11:20
» Yeah

You can remove the hard-drive it's in the front now hard to see at first but if you look it's on the bottom right corner a door to get to it so it's actually easier to remove the HDD. Also out of the 23+ million PS3 owners to date how many do you actually think care or have Linux installed? Better yet out of all the other ppl that want a PS3 how many do you think care that you can't install Linux now?

Of course it's still going to have the same ram and same speed blu-ray player. They aren't going to make it more advanced be cause that would cause problems for the current PS3 owners when developers make games.

by danielakadanny - 2009-08-18 11:33
» ummmm dude....

I didn't even need to be told that there was a Playstation 3 coming out....like I SAID before and also the rockness(sorry if I spelled it wrong) there is a pattern going

Playstation + Playstation 1

Playstation 2 + Playstation 2 slim

Playstation 3 + Playstation 3 slim (and what an ugly one it is compared to the glossy sexy one...just my opinion)..and you really own this website? oh and don't act like you are high and mighty just cause you predicted (like most of us) that a Playstation 3 slim was coming out

by danielakadanny - 2009-08-18 11:43
» oh sorry...

I just reread it and I sound like a douche...not tryin to bash you or anythin...just my opinion

by f31j - 2009-08-18 12:19
» ...

@ master chef

i wasn't aware they had 120gb for old models.............

and are you bragging about how much extra money you have?

by Shatterdome - 2009-08-18 12:20
» ....

Yeah card readers are kind of useless considering any camera or video camera will just let you plug the device in through USB and transfer your content that way.

My only complaint, not that it matters because I wouldn't pick up a new one for it anyways, would be that they did not add or move a USB slot to the back of the console. If you have your PS3 eye or an external USB HDD attached, it is really a pain in the ass and eyesore to have a cable sticking out from the front of the console that then runs behind your entertainment unit somewhere....

Everything else is fine and $100 cheaper is definitely a nice thing.

by f31j - 2009-08-18 12:30
» insane pricing.

weird....all Canadian shops are also listing it for $299. that's $200 cheaper than current model selling here. also, xbox elite is selling $349 here.

by truk - 2009-08-18 12:41
» skidz...

the whole point of the slim was to cut out all the "unnecessary" things that made the ps3 "expensive".

this is in fact what everyone one who was complaining about price and excessiveness of the ps3 wanted. so everyone, man-up and get one already, shizzz

by gammy69er - 2009-08-18 13:40
» yay...oh...ummmm...well...that...is...it...huh...

Finall the rumor mills can cease, ps3 slim this, ps3 slim that - well we all know now.

@Silver-Tiger:

sorry to be a wanker, just clarifying facts, but XDR ram is not the fastest out there, nor was it at the time the PS3 was developed - ddr5 was around and much faster, bout 2X - 5X, but of course, costs about 10X more - so not used, also gddr5 (way more expensive at the time) would better for graphics than ddr5 or XDR.

New unit looks plain, but i don't look at my 60gig much, just play it, probably enough dust to make it matt finish.

Just a shame they didn't put more ddr3 in for unix/linux/web. coulda done that, every techie woulda been in getting a fresh one (xtra 1gig ddr3 + US$20 (RETAIL) - not a big problem really.

Nothign too special here, but still better than a 360 :p.

by Master Chef - 2009-08-18 14:17
» um sure

My mistake, two 160GB models. And yeah, I got one free from Sony and the other half price, I'm def bragging about my moniez. Bite me

» to all people complaing about looks...

Those who are complaining about how it looks, think about this....How much time do you spend actually LOOKING at your system???you pop in a disc for a few seconds and that's just about it. you're not gonna be playing a game and right in the middle of it, go and stare at your system. Your looking at your tv and the game....nothing more. SO Stop complaining about looks!!!

by your_fire - 2009-08-18 15:27
» well..

we want a nice looking hardware infront of the tv...we dont want an ugly hardware with the rest of our media center place...if only it had a glossy finish like the old one..i would love it..it doesnt even have a touch sensitive eject button..not high tech for me lol

u cant install linux on it either

by ISOHaven - 2009-08-19 03:41
» WTF!?!?!?!?!

Rock is wrong and zero is right. People blinking obsessively is a sign of nervousness, fatigue or that they need glasses or a new prescription.

Now, unless you get nervous when you lie..... either way you can NEVER claim LIAR based on blinking.

by Shatterdome - 2009-08-19 06:35
» ....

It was never a mystery that Sony would release a Slim version of the PS3.....it was just a matter of time.

by TheRockness - 2009-08-19 07:20
» You guys...

The eyes communicate more that any other part of the human anatomy. Staring or gazing at others can create pressure and tension in the room. Gangs have fought over the way someone looked at them. Researcher suggests that individuals who can routinely out gaze another develop a sense of control and power over others not so inclined. Maintained eye contact can show if a person is trustworthy, sincere or caring. Shifty eyes, too much blinking can suggest deception. People with eye movements that are relaxed and comfortable yet attentive to the person they are conversing with are seen as more sincere and honest.

Eyebrow muscle draws the eyebrows down and toward the center of the face if someone is annoyed. If someone is empathetic and caring during dialogue the eyebrows will not show the annoyed facial grimace.

Now go away, Negative Nancy.

by Eclipze_ - 2009-08-19 16:16
» uh..

Not sure if you noticed but your complaining about the prices yet you don't even buy your consoles from a store... If you got a 60GB for $200 (when it was actually $600 at release) then just imagine what they would sell a slim to you for?

You could get it for half price or less if you just find the person who sold you the 60's for that cheap.
