Sold out - Image 1

The release was supposed to be for early September, but now that the PS3 Slim is available, retailer supplies aren't even gonna last until then . The newly-announced, slimmed-down model of the PlayStation 3 is apparently selling so hot that retailers' first shipments have already been sold out.

Engadget reports that GameStop and Best Buy outlets all over San Francisco and New York have had their supply of the PS3 Slim sold out. PS3 sales will certainly pick up given this development, so it'd be interesting how the sales charts would play out.

So much for "early September"

lol i was also waiting for this moment lol....just ordered at amazon!

» hmmm

Right now ps3 slim is selling fast because its new... we all should wait a couple months until the ps3 slim hype starts to fade. then we'll see if the ps3 is going to top x360 or stay down as it always did...

by ptspyder - 2009-08-28 13:57
» ...

There should never have been any doubt that ps3 will eventually out sell the 360. The 10 year expected life span of the console alone will guarantee it.

» Sales will be good

Lot of people that wanted 360 and Wii who wanted them have bought them already. Look at the Wii, sales have dropped by half. PS3 was the only console that people were holding off on because of the price. So up through the holiday season, sales of the PS3 should be good. Upcoming games like GT5 and God of War as exclusives can't hurt.

Felis, that might be the best post I've ever seen from you... mostly because you're not saying anything. You should do that more often;-)

This is not surprising news at all, $300 is a STEAL for the PS3. When I got mine, it was supposedly the last one they had... Gamestop keeps console stock in the back, so who knows for sure, but that's what they told me.

I'm curious to know how many total units Sony shipped in the first batch to the US. You'd think it had to be 250K+ right? Maybe higher?

by Echo307 - 2009-08-28 14:31
» @Danny

***** man, if they're already sold out of the first batch, I'd like to see the numbers for August. This last week was probably enough to propel them over 360 sales in the US for the first time in a long time.

by DarkXCloud - 2009-08-28 15:11
» Nice

Great to hear that they are doing well.

by Hekynn - 2009-08-28 15:15
» awsome news there

Good news right there man. I bet Sony will be getting ALOT of sales during the fall and holiday shopping season

OMG I'm getting an ORGASM

by danielakadanny - 2009-08-28 15:21
» exactly!

but the price has only been active for a week I think but its just amazing how much they have already sold so far...hmmm I wonder if sony is going to have the PS3 shortage like at launch time...and if it does I will be very surprised by that because with the new 360 price drop it will be a challenge for MS...well only time will tell

Death for PS3, Doom for me!

Well, I fixed this bad boy but I'm trading it in for a slim come Monday. It's the third time it's happened and I've been eyeballin' the slim since it was announced. EBgames deal is kind of a rip, but my current PS3's lifespan is practically gone. Best it be shipped off to be refurbed. I'm just hoping there's one left for me on Monday when I go do it.

by Echo307 - 2009-08-28 15:50

THREE console failures on the PS3 in less than 3 years? Geez, you know you're not supposed to stand on your system while you play it, right?

» PS3 Fat

I'll think I'll stick with my baby until there is a "TOTALLY NEW" upgrade for the PS3. Something that is worth getting because it's WAY better than its older self.

Until then I'm fine with my:

-Backwards Compatibility

-Memory Card Readers

-4 USB Ports

Or until my PS3 Fat's time line comes to an end... =)

by chargin_teh_lazorz - 2009-08-28 16:23
» Not exactly

The YLOD only started to happened in the last two months. I never sent it in to Sony, did the repairs myself. Glad I didn't too, the $150 Sony charges to fix is going toward the purchase after trade in.

by MrBlonde746 - 2009-08-28 16:32
» Tired

of you people saying "oh BC this" and "BC that" why buy a fuc*en ps3 if your so worried about your PS2 games? If your so worried about them should have just stuck with your PS2 like I did. I traded my BC, Memory Card Reader, 4 USB ports for a slim!

by chargin_teh_lazorz - 2009-08-28 16:34
» Hmm

Are those really necessary components? Well, except for the 4 USB ports for those who play Rock Band, but then again there are adapters for that issue. I've probably only used the card reader once since I've had it, and I know some cherish the BC but mine is BC and I've only played PS2/1 games maybe twice or four times.

But that's just me, other people probably use those parts of the PS3 more than others. But IMHO, those we can do without.

by HIDEO KOJIMA - 2009-08-28 16:59
» SCALPERS

That right!! Scalpers.... I bet you'll find most of these Slims on eBay because they were sold before the official street date.

by pawn535 - 2009-08-28 18:30
» Awesome!

Good to hear this, actually went into the Future Shop by my house a few hours ago and was looking for Batman Arkham Asylum which apparently they were all sold out of except for the Collectors editions which I didn't want to pay $100 for... anyways I noticed 4 slims as I was walking in and as i was walking out there were only two and I saw one guy paying for one XD GO PS3!!!

Not trying to own anybody, just giving him/her a friendly jab:-)

by lolwut? - 2009-08-28 20:21
» Well...

Wasn't the playstation 3 already sold out on release too? mostly because of scalpers and the fact that the stores only had about 10-20 ps3s each. I'd just like to see how many they sold though, in total

by Echo307 - 2009-08-28 21:40
» @HIDEO

I think "most" is a stretch. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that did just that, trying to make a quick buck.

Just did a quick search and turned up just over 150 slims on sale right now via eBay. I haven't seen the number, but I have to assume Sony shipped at least 250-500K of these things just in the US. A few thousand of them selling on eBay doesn't qualify as "most," and even if there were more, I'm sure Sony couldn't care less how they leave the shelves, just as long as they leave the shelves. If they're on eBay, that means Sony has already collected their cash for it.

One more thing, there was no street date for the new PS3. Sony listed September 1st as a release date originally, but then gave all vendors permission to sell them as soon as they got them in stock. I know the city I live in and surrounding areas are all sold out, because I have a couple of buddies that are still looking for them, and everywhere they've called they get the same answer: "We got them in and sold out already."

I personally think there was just a LOT of people waiting on this price cut.

by Uplink - 2009-08-29 01:27
» @Mastershane

I agree the slim is a big letdown for me. I have a luanch 60g and i wanted to get a new one looks like its not possible now tho i havta have BC.

@MrBlonde746

BC is important just becuase you dont use it dont mean others dont. I personally own 327 PS2 titles and id like to not have 20 diff game systems on my tv stand.

by blkthunda - 2009-08-29 01:59
» @uplink

If you have that so many guys why use a PS3 to play when it's so much better than playing it on PS2? Your entertainment center should have a small spot to put your PS2.

by Link75e - 2009-08-29 02:39
» might be because of bluray

i bought a slim for my mom cause she needed a blu ray player and the slim was cheap and just incase anything happened to my ps3 phat i can always use the slim. My firend works at best buy and they were selling them as blu ray players to people buying home theathre systems and tv's.

by Csyrah - 2009-08-29 09:02
» ...

My ps2 stopped working... which sucks but oh well. Even if it did work... im poor as sht, so I dont have the cables (or the ports) to plug both the PS3 and PS2 in at the same time. But hey, its nice to have one system that plays all formats.

by Csyrah - 2009-08-29 09:05

if you fix it yourself, I really dont think its fair to blame the PS3 for another failure lol.

blkthunda and MrBlonde746-

for one the PS3 makes Ps2 games look better then if you played them on the PS2, And don't try talking about the problem about PS2 games looking worse as that was fixing in a Update a LONG time ago.

truk-

people don't Need to be rich to get a system like the PS3, They save money back to get what they want and for the money they pay they want everything the System can Do.

as for everyone getting a PS3 Sadly Sony makes you Look into the system your getting as you may get cheated out unless you research what system is for you. for me it's the 60gig version.

by ONESTEP - 2009-08-29 15:05
» !!!

im highly amused, all this *****ing about BC and broken PS3's.

If you like your PS1, PS2 games, dont sell it, the trade in is worth you saving a few extra weeks.

If you fear PS3 will fail on you lets not forget this article.

search how to kill a ps3

The majority of the "old" consoles are this stout. Theres a 1% fail rate in comparison to the xboxs UNDISPUTED 50% failure rate.

google= xbox 360 failure rates august 25, 2009

google= ps3-failure-rate-less-than-one-percent 2007

Lets not forget the console destruction test.....

you tube = Console Destruction form G4

yes these tags are mispelled, i copy pasted from video, QJ hates weblink code.... search youselves

by Link75e - 2009-08-29 15:20
» BC is the best but....

If you wanted the BC then you would of purchased it like i did with the 80gig MGS edition. Did the research and i decided to get it cause i love rpg's and all the real good rpg's are on ps2 and i can buy them now for like 20 bucks. But people who didnt get it when it was out dont have the right to complain because they had the time to get it. You pay little bit for something expect little back.

by solidus4prez - 2009-08-29 16:30
» hmph.

Certainly didn't fly off my shelves. We sold a little over 10 today.

by Uplink - 2009-08-30 03:42
» @blkthunda

Becuase its simply not better on my ps2, i have wireless dual shock on ps3 as well as the ps2 dont have aspect correction the ps3 does ans i dont need 5million mem cards lol i simply dont have room for a reciver a ps3 an xbox 360 a wii a dreamcast a n64 AND a ps2 the ps2 is tucked aways in the closet.

by Csyrah - 2009-08-30 08:45
» ...

It was the 80/40gb software emulation I "believe" had problems with PS2 games looking really bad. Yeah thats another good point on not having to buy memory cards and having to switch between them.

by truk - 2009-08-30 13:47
» @zzk

of course you dont have to be rich to buy videogames, DUH. however you do need money to buy videogames, and if you dont have money then can't buy videogames. if you choose to spend money on a videogame rather than food, youre an idiot. call me crazy me but you NEED food to survive.

all i'm saying is, get priorities straight and instead of investing in something you don't need, how about investing in something you do like KEEPING YOUR SELF ALIVE.

by dylantalon - 2009-08-30 15:15
» xbl/psn- dylantalon

ps3 is the future and the future is ps3 . ps3 exclusives are unique and are of higher quality and technology which often times cant be done on any other console .

ps. the talon stands for talented

by zzk2001 - 2009-08-31 00:35
» truk LOL

who the hell would buy a game over food hahahaha

Anyways i don't know how that came about Over talking about Ps2 on PS3 But ok... lol

I am 100% sure if you can save money for a system like the Ps3 you can save money for 60$ games +P And even a Person with a 10.50$ hour job or even less can hold back money without going Hungry.

by truk - 2009-08-31 12:35
» priorities

has anyone ever killed they family members over videogames? so to think that someone could choose a game over food isn't so far-fetched.

and your math might be missing a few things like rent, hydro, water, heat, transit, FOOD, any other debt (credit cards), laundry, emergencies, dependent (if applicable), entertainment (tv, internet and all things applicable), health, etc. 10.50 is crap pay. you wouldn't be able to live off that. at that pay your are about $10000 less than what you should be making and that's before taxes.

FOOD>GAMES!

how did we come to this? read cyrahs post.

by zzk2001 - 2009-08-31 21:10
» .....

I lived off of 10.50$ a hour for Years Hell i lived off of 9$ a hour and Still had money saved bad for things i wanted, Maybe your just a rich kid that don't know/understand how the real world works or maybe just a kid that has not yet goten into the real world yet IDK i don't know you or do i care to. As for the killing over video game LOL that's a load of crap No one has been killed over a Game Just the Media or People trying to Pin a unthinkable act to something like video games.

by truk - 2009-09-01 10:22
» ...

well good for you, if you can live off $10.50 and have enough money to live comfortably.. unless you dont live comfortably..

and you might want to pay attention cause there have been countless instances where a videogame was the center of a violent/stupid act.

eg#1: jan 09 kid kills his dad cause his dad would not let him play halo 3.

eg#2 aug 05 man dies after playing 50 striaght hours of starcraft

btw, youre poor. invest in an education and get a better job

by zzk2001 - 2009-09-02 07:38
» HAHAHAHAH...

I'll have you know i make 23.75$ a hour I say that's good for a so called poor invest in an education, I only Started Out at 10.50$ like 7 years ago.

what i make does not really matter, i was just Pointing out that a person can and Does buy the things they want no matter How much they make.

by truk - 2009-09-03 09:53
» good.

my point: poor people should invest in things they need not want
