British shopping site PriceGrabber and game retailer Comet have announced that the Sony PlayStation 3 game console is picking up interest as it nears its March 23 launch, but not in the manner that its rivals did.PriceGrabber reports that two weeks prior to its launch, the searches for the PS3 have doubled in number. However, it trails the Nintendo Wii and the Xbox 360 when the two were in similar situations. The Wii's searches tripled two weeks prior to its UK launch and the Xbox 360 racked an incredible 435 percent increase in searches. That's almost six times its average interest level.
On a more positive note, the PS3 met market expectations in terms of demand and pre-ordered units. Ross Edwards, Comet's Head of Games expressed faith that interest will mount as the launch date draws near. "Whilst demand for PS3 has been in line with market expectations pre launch- as the official launch date looms closer interest is really building," he says. The PS3 also ships in Australia, Africa and the Middle East on the same date.

There is nothing of substance to connect with this article. The PS3 will pass the X360 in sales before Christmas in Europe. They are traditionally huge fans of Sony's game players, and this time is no different.
