This news complements the numbers that came out yesterday, showing Sony's PS3 Slim selling a million units in the mere three weeks it's been out. Jack Tretton, SCEA's Chief Exec, revealed that they are now "up about 300 percent over" where they were before the price drop, in terms of PS3 sales.

Of course, it wasn't only the introduction of the PS3 Slim to the market that provided a major boost to the brand, it was also largely in part to the US$ 100 price cut. But will they be able to sustain this momentum, especially with the nearing holiday rush?

"In a very difficult economy, I couldn't be more optimistic about our fortunes for the rest of the year and for the future," he said. He did concede too, however, that "If things continue at this pace, it is conceivable that there will be product shortages."

We're fully expecting that, actually.

» shortages - bad omen?

if this keeps up i think the ps3 will end up like the wii, only with better games.

this happened when the wii came out. everyone immediately bought one, now nintendo can't sell anymore cause everyone already has one (i personally don't and wont buy one anyway). At least the ps3 has good games coming out soon, so if someone walks into a gamestop (or whatever) and whats to buy a console, all they have to know is that for $50 more they can have a console that does everything.

not bad. imo i give the wii til june, RIP wii

» But...

The real reason the wii also stopped selling is cause of all that junky Shovelware.Makes u wonder what nintendo is doing about that and how thats gonna change.

the wii's not all bad.. Tiger Woods 2010's an ok game and oh, mario kart is good, errm.....

tbh I think if any console needed achievements/trophies to keep the games interesting it was the wii.

"now nintendo can't sell anymore cause everyone already has one"

isn't the Wii still outselling both the PS3 and the X360?

Well, I hope the rumors about crossgame-chat with FW3.10 are true - that should boost sells even more :)

more sales + more people to play with + better multi-plat-ports + more pressure on sony to make the PSN better + better for us!

"isn't the Wii still outselling both the PS3 and the X360?"

uhmm...no. At the moment the PS3 is outselling both.

the shovelware mostly came from third-party developers. Nintendo's games were always of good quality. (except Wii Fit, I can't believe how that trash could sell so good.)

» WTF!?!?!?!?!

Yup! PS3 is first in sales numbers with Wii in second and the 360 in third.

Wait... so everyone that wants a Wii has one and they can't sell any more yet they are selling more then the 360??? I guess that means the 360 is nothing but pure ***** then right? Hey, that's based on YOUR logic!!!

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! !!!!

» WTF!?!?!?!?!

Let me get this straight... the Wii has nothing but "junky Shovelware" yet it's selling more then the 360.... So the 360 is worse then junky?

Get your head out of your a$$!! The Wii has not stopped selling. Where do you get your information from? Crackheads? Potheads?

Lol.

Wiis sells more cause Wiis cheap. :)

Also probably cause it's age group (6-15 imo) usually are spoiled brats and want low budget POS games cause the box art is "cool". It's got some good games too, however.

Nothing against the Wii though, it's making money and that's what only seems to matter nowadays.

While I agree the Wii has not stopped selling, just because it has sold a lot/the most doesn't make it great or better than anything else.

Good for Sony, but there is a shortage around the holidays then that won't be good.

See what happens when something's cheap, it sells like hotcakes and may be hard to get! When PS3 was $500, stores would have huts made of them, usually 2 bed 2 bath.

» ISOHaven answers you ??

The wii is selling cuz its name NINTENDO it can suck all it wants its NINTENDO.Its the same way with you and I Im behind sony from day one psx,ps2,psp,ps3 sony could have bin a let down with the ps3 and you will still get one

» WTF!?!?!?!?!

Actually, it does. It means MORE people like the Wii then the 360 and PS3. That's fact. No matter how you look at it.

Number of people showing interest is the most important factor. The PEOPLE are the most important factor.

I think you meant to say that higher Wii sales doesn't automatically make the system a more "high end" system. The PS3 and 360 are technologically higher end then the Wii. However, obviously, based on the ACTIONS of PEOPLE, high end doesn't mean shlt.

So yes, sales numbers are EVERYTHING.

So, in the end, the Wii is a better system as MORE people enjoy it then there are people enjoying the other two.

As for your other comment, you are dead wrong. Not only kids enjoy the Wii. Nintendo has done something NO ONE ELSE has ever done. They captured the largest audience of all time. From kids to people in their golden years. It's all about marketing....something Microsoft has always failed at and Sony's only been "ok" at.
