Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Ubisoft - Image 1Giving gamers insight as to how the different versions of Tom Clancy's  Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 (PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3) will turn out on March 21, Ubisoft Montreal's Philippe Therien said that contrary to what most gamers may think, the PS3 version of the game won't be a port of the Xbox 360 version. However, Therien emphasized the following:

It's very important for us that the 360 and the PS3 version are the same. We're working really hard right now to put them on par graphics wise. As far as the gameplay goes it's going to be the entire same product.

So what sets the PS3 Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 apart from its Xbox 360 counterpart? One noticeable thing (for hawk-eyed gamers) is the differences in lighting. Therien explained that the two next-gen gaming consoles handle lighting quite differently, so minor lighting discrepancies should be expected.

Also, the creation of the different versions of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 required separate teams: one for the Xbox 360 version, another for the PS3, and yet another dedicated team for the PC game. Therien said that the three teams worked alongside each other, "making sure everything gets to the same point."

But that is not to say that they prefer one console over the others, nor that they consider any of the consoles being better than others. "We just want people to choose the platform of their choice to play Vegas the way we want them to," said Therien.

hahaha...

true that buddy... but i have to say that my lawst two Ubisoft experiences has been quite good, Oblivion and Assassins Creed so they're moving up a notch in my book. is Fallout 3 under Ubisoft??? i'm hearing a lot of good things about it.

Comparison videos

I dunno about all the PS3 games looking faded out...I mean, I checked the comparison video for Assassin's Creed and it doesn't look faded out on my HDTV with my PS3. The PS3 and 360 version seem to look exactly the same. People need to make sure Full RGB is set on their PS3 and superwhite is on. As well as the TV being set the same way...I can't help but feel they set the contrast up on the TV higher >.>;

yeah

The lighting issue is made a lot better once you properly set up your tv and turn on... some option (forget the name of it... its like true black or something). But really, saying the consoles handle lighting differently means that devs are pretty lazy till now with the hackjobs of lighting. @quix - Oblivion is made by Bethesda Studios, tho AC is made my Ubi Montreal. Fallout3 is also being made by Bethesda, I'm assuming Ubi has publishing rights in your area of the world.

um...

uh, i think you guys are confusing in-game lighting with brightness levels. graphical lighting (in game) is about how an object reflects light or casts shadows. the Xbox 360 and some PC games are built with HDR and that includes Bloom effects... if you haven't been aggravated by it, count your blessings. there have been numerous complaints about it in RS Vegas (PC). PS3 handles HDR and bloom slightly differently.

Well

When I'm saying I had bad experience with ubi I'm not talking about the lighting (cause that has to do with your TV and RBG full plus superwhite), I'm mainly talking about how they make really glitchy games. Assassin's creed freezes about every time I play it. Rainbow six vegas would kick you out of the game to the XMB, it had one glitch where you crosshair would like blow up in your screen so you couldnt see anything, and no lobby online (plus no support with updates). Plus both this and GRAW2 got delayed like 50 times, so you'd think thats enough times to actually get it working right. Ubi needs to learn about developing in my opinion, because with the ps3 they really suck at it.
