PS3-PSP Remote Play video chat

Ó

Over at YouTube, we found a video clip showing how the video chat for remote play between the PlayStation 3 (PS3) and PlayStation Portable (PSP) looks like. As you all know, Remote Play has been activated by way of access points ever since PS3 FW 1.6. The clip was uploaded by user EQDruid.

A USB cam is mounted on top of his TV connected to the console. Then the guy is holding another cam to show how the streamed video looks like on the PSP. He's not using newly announced PlayStation Eye but the resolution is just as good. Anyone among you who's tried this before?

I just read a posting about this yesterday and tried it when I got home. Might "come in handy" once remote play works away from home

you can do video chat on full screen on the ps3 but the video was just a demonstration showing that you can view your eyetoy on the psp. and when the new cam for ps3 comes out its going to be much better than the xbox 360s cam

I knew of this before I even bought my PS3. And not only can you do it with a PS3/PSP, but you can also do it with an Xbox 360/PSP. I prefer the latter since, like Rayn389 mentioned above, the video chat for 360 is done a bit better.

damn this guy almost fooled me, but look at the wifi light, its not even on(flashing or blinking), which means this is just a video(almost when he was moving, he was not insync and its not because of lag)

this is all good and well, but what's the point?... you can see and hear what your ps3 can see and hear, on your psp right? but what good is that? you can't transmit video or sound back to the ps3, so there's really no real reason to do this other than a weird surveillance system...

anyone know why i should bother?

Leave it to the unregistered to screech FAKE!

Almost seems like an opposing fanboy trying

to knock a good thing that happens to come

from a better competitive product.

Cough NDS cough 360 cough...

Stop posting on PSP blogs unregistered

NDS/360 Fanboy.

Well whether or not the video is genuine, I think it's gives an idea how it might work.

Sony should develop a full-screen, fully-functional video conferencing app for the PSP's remote play section. So when remote play is done over the web, this will be an awesome useful feature.

I concur. PS3 can do video chatting in full-screen, it looks much better, and Eyetoy (now PS Eye) itself is way better than the crappy 360 webcam.

The 360 doesn't even have a screen. And it's big and noisy and there is no wifi. So how again do you use your 360 at a coffee shop? You must have huge pockets to bring that thing around. Oh unless you are talking about using video chat in your living room, but in that case I would just use my PS3. 360 is for poor people. beat it fool.

This is cool, but it'd be better to vid chat from one psp to another using the PSP usb camera add-on.

I think it's because Dark Alex removed location free player from the PSP on homebrew firmwares beyond 2.7. I agree that he should allow users the option of keeping it in.

# Port ForwardingTemprix 2007-05-04 21:53
Hey I think you can already use Remote Play over the internet, via some port forwarding and perhaps (For simplicity's sake) a DDNS account... Muah I want to test this with my PS3, Linux router and PSP now!

# Not fakeGuest 2007-05-04 23:47
you cant see the WIFI light because I have a Skin on. Anyways, its real, thoose of you with the equipment can give it a go. There is no mod, its just the 1.7 FW for the PS3 and 3.0 FW for PSP.

I Didnt do this as some fan boy or such, just thought it was cool.

Anyways, I guess someone didn't find it cool, and decided to hack into my home computer... It doesnt even load up, can't see anything on screen... will deal with that today.

Good Luck guys and have fun =)
