Because TGS 2006 isn't big enough for more syrupy PSP and PS3 goodness, Sony demoed the "Remote Play" functions of the two at CETEC JAPAN 2006. And GameWatch and Famitsu were both there to cover it all, and tell all about it. Also, as PSPVault found out, they both came away with radically different ideas of how Remote Play Works. GameWatch says that Sony says that the PS3 will "throw" (yep, "throw") its video signal to the PSP using Wi-Fi. This means that the PSP can be used to control and see the related PS3 game, making the handheld sort of a Location-free PS3 - minus the six-axis motion-sense, right analog stick, and two shoulder buttons, though.
But Famitsu says that Remote Play is all about (and we quote PSPVault's quoting): "download[ing] Playstation 3 content to the PSP." Now that may read as somewhat like GameWatch's take - which is transmitting PS3 signals to the PSP - but it may also mean that Remote Play is primarily limited to trading game data between the two machines, and not necessarily PS3 in-game control with the PSP.
We would like to think it would be both - hey, the only limits to PSP-PS3 in-game interaction are the bandwidth limits of Wi-Fi (or a direct USB connection) and how much code it takes to integrate that into a game. We also had that earlier bit from the PS3 F1 racing game that the PSP could be used as a rear-view mirror. And Sony's Izumi Kawanishi had also mentioned the entire PS3-throwing-video-to-PSP thing last month.The only thing we're waiting for now is a video of the demo in action (and someone who can understand the Japanese menu in the Remote Play demo).

it says remote play and internet browser. its in katakana, so if you can just read it, you can guess what it is.
I'm hoping remote play means uploading a "side level" to your PSP for additional experience, items and/or unlockables.

To me, it sounds like the PS3 is also a LocationFree station. Other than that, it will also use interconnectivity ala PS2, except through WiFi.
Actually it's not japanese but english, written in katakana... anyone can learn it in less than an hour... and it's pretty useful, you should try ;)
The Japanese text says that the remote function is only available on the 60gb model, not the 20gb one. That`s because the latter lacks wifi. It indeed says the ps3 can "throw" (toba*****e) the image to the psp. I wonder..

The remote PSP to PS3 connection will be completely useless. The best use of it so far is a rearview mirror for a racing game? Where do you put it? Do you look down whenever you want to see what's behind you? They're just trying to make up another reason to buy a PS3 if you own a PSP.
Mister common sense can think about other uses besides the rearviewmirror function. Maybe we will see succesful interaction and maybe not. Do not judge when the console is not released. nuff said people can lick my tinkerbells.

Assuming its just to download ps3 content, and the first guy was right then il just make a PSP PS3 IR remote like i made for the PS2. =p If the second guy is right then theres no problem...
The Ps3 is not neccesary to download ps1 games right?. Wow this connectivity sounds like a gimmick,turn the PSP into a sniper scope for Socom ps3 at least.

the psp isn't running the games, it's recieving the video through wifi like streaming video.
What they really need to do is set up the PSP to stream video to the PS3.. since their games are going to be ridiculously expensive we're going to need something to do with the PS3 until a modchip comes out for it. Who wouldn't want to be able to play their PSP games on their TV at home? I'd consider upgrading just for that and a PS1 emulator.

Maybe then we will be able to send stuff as pictures, mp3 etc through PS3 and PSP. Who knows i just hope that hey will be albe to get a video of it all soon..
