South Africa is one one of those places that usually don't pop up in our heads unless we're thinking of Charlize Theron or diamonds. But if you're in the business of tracking PS3 news wherever they may come from, there's a third reason why South Africa is back on the map. An online store called Take 2 has boldly announced that it will be hawking the PS3 for 6,399 South African Rands. If that sounds pricey in rands it is equally pricey in greenback - around $900! But in a country whose natural resources include diamonds and Theron, perhaps that's not a bad price. The PS3 is expected to hit the land of Nelson Mandela this December.

In South Africa we always end up paying the most for every thing (eg:PSP = $360), yet we dont complain about the price like every body else. The price of the PS3 will be much more in the shops, more like $1000 (R 7180), and yet almost every body I know will buy a PS3. May be the price is so high because we can afford it.

if nigerians can afford to import, thats about 8,000 nigerian currency with tax then why cant SA's afford 6,400 rnds. the downside is that mostly all the ps2 games down there are all piracy's and i the ps3 will be no different.

» IM FED UP WITH SOUTH AFRICA!

Man, I hate getting things from south africa. Almost every single buyer on eBay from South Africa is a scam and wants to buy my items with Western Credit Union. I HATE SOUTH AFRICAN/NIGERIA SCAMMERS!

Now I'm not saying that this is a scam, but it very well could be.

South Africa, being a thrid world country, has a small portion of extremely wealthy, and massive numbers of very poor. The extremely wealthy can aford expensive stuff being more expensive, the others cant. Hell, i think it should be more expensive in SA, and the tax should be put directly towards cleaning up slums...

» Screw you.

Statement 8 is a load of bs, it's those f*cking nigerians living here who scam you people, they tried to scam me out of 7 grand (No, not in dollars you plank) for my pc. But anyway, you lot are right it is a bloody rip-off esp at Take 2. I am probably going to go overseas to buy my new pc. F*cking government, f*cking nigerian scum. Oh and Charlize Theron can go and shove herself up Mr Slave's ass.

If I remember correctly the PS2 was around 46,000 Naira ($400) when it came out in Nigeria, the PS1 was around 33,000 (also $400 at the time). I expect the PS3 to be significantly more pricey though. Most of the consoles bought in the shops are modded however.
