PS3 price cut: a question of if and when |

Edward Woo of Wedbush Morgan Securities believes, as fellow analyst Michael Pachter does, that a price cut for the PlayStation 3 is imminent, and soon. Specifically, Woo believes that the price cut will happen once the supplies of the 60GB model have run out.Woo speculates that the 60GB models could last until October, which makes his predictions earlier than Pachter's. Pachter, also of Wedbush Morgan Securities, believes that the price cut will happen early next year on the advent of PS3 exclusive games, particularly before the release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.
The question lies in timing: if Sony will introduce a PS3 price cut, when is the right time to do it? Pachter's theory places the price cut after the holidays while Woo's would place it right before. A price cut right before the holidays, a peak season for the games industry, would certainly boost sales.
A price cut right before the exclusives come out will boost sales as well. However, the advantage of introducing a price cut right before the exclusives come out is that Sony would have the holidays to maintain its momentum.
These are all only speculations however, considering Sony is still maintaining its stony silence on a price cut. We don't even know if it will happen, but we'll see soon enough.

@k: LOL, yeah, you said it! I want a ps3, but I know that soon enough, I'll be able to buy a new and shiny 80g model for the same price (or even less) that I'd buy the 60g now :'( What should I do :(, I mean, if there is not price cut, I'll just have waited for nothing.. I suppose I'll start by finishing wild arms 5 and persona 3 on my ps2, then warrior orochi, then I'll buy it, lol.

In November, Sony needs to drop the 80gb (without Motorstorm) to $400 and say it only lasts until January 1st. Then it goes back up to $500. That would sale a lot of PS3s. No question about it.
they need the holiday sales and in february to put the sam price again.. then metal gear and killzone will boost sales without the price drop... now.. the 360 have halo.. and what's next? they need a gears of war 2 because they don't have nothing... I just get bored with my 360... just playing the demos... that is more than the PSN... but now with warhawk and tkken online is like wow... my best fighting series and warhawk that is more that I expected... a lot of fun... quick online experience... everything works perfect.. I guess the beta help them... a little problems the day after but nothing now... now tekken have network problems now.. I hope they fix it... like warhawk do... anyway $10 for the online is a steal
Do have any reason why its high, its called taxes. Those places has higher taxes than the U.S so its going to be higher obviously. Im not saying a price cut won't happen, but if does(for Europe and others) it has to be a similar right time.

They aren't going to want to cut that deeply before holidays, becuase they would probably be losing money then. I expect it to be $50, that will put them ahead of where they were before the Microsoft cut, since only one of MS SKUs dropped by 50, and they can probably still make money at the price on the 80GB models.
u should get a 60gb version now, b4 they run out. if u ever need more space ive seen 100gb hdds go on ebay for 70 quid, ($100, its cheaper there.) thats what i did! btw WARHAWK RULES!

$ony won't lower the price, just give you crap games you don't want in bundle form. If you're going to get a PS3, might as well get a 60gb. $ony's cheap asses aren't going to give anybody breaks and that's why they're going to lose.
