PS3 playing songs from HDD - Image 1

We spotted an interesting post from We! where he narrated that he stumbled upon a "hidden" function of the Sony PlayStation 3 which enabled him to play music from the hard drive in the middle of the game. We! said he was tinkering with Japanese game Everyday Together and didn't understand anything in the menu. He chose the option shown above and wonder of wonders, it asked him to choose a track.

We! is Spanish and the menu text that followed appeared in Spanish and not Japanese, causing him to theorize that the player is not part of the game but perhaps part of the firmware that he has in his Sony PlayStation 3 system. See the images below to check and validate them.

Additional details suggest that this player has been worked on by Sony as it has some basic play options such as shuffle, repeat, and what not. Is this part of a bigger plan for the PS3 to increase functionality? Do you think that games in the future will support it? Tell us by posting your comments below.

hmmm I guess...

Is part of the game... not a firmware... like fall of the man can access the friend list of the PSN... tekken can invite anyway to play tekken... warhawk can see the stats of your PSN friends or get in their game.. so this.. I guess.. is partr of the game.. custum sountrac or something... what sony told the developers to do... but not a firmware perse.. anyway I hope it's true... but I never use that in the 360... just want to chat with my buddy list while playing... hate to exit the game just to answer...

"We! is Spanish" ?!

Spanish is a language, not an ethnicity.
by whitelightnig - 2007-09-17 22:20:27
dumbass..

maybe hes from SPAIN!! RETARD!
by Quixand - 2007-09-17 22:22:13

by whitelightnig - 2007-09-17 22:22:55
maybe it is hidden

this isnt the first time sony has thrown something in and not talked about it. anybody familiar with the PSP scene may remember that skype, and gps/camera support were found in the firmware before there was any announcement or support for it in the xmb
by SenorDingDong - 2007-09-17 22:26:13
Gah?

It could be an ethnicity ... if they're from Spain. In the same way that someone is English if they're from England.
by Someone_PR - 2007-09-17 22:30:42
not me...

that's my language lol...
by Volomon - 2007-09-17 23:00:23
Its part of the game.

The music update was to the DevKit and it was 3-5 monthes ago. All games must have it enabled or it is not useable in games. Which is why you have yet to see custom music tracks. Don't know why you guys don't know that I think the info on the Devkit update was on here.
by Techni - 2007-09-17 23:09:58
Actually..

It's API in the firmware, just like how the same game accesses the friends list. It's just implemented on a game by game basis.

yep

abante is forward! oh wait abante is filipino not spanish :) anyways music on ps3 hard drive can be used on games from the start of the ps3 life, but not many game makers uses that function. maybe to promote their own original compositions perhaps? the GTA series on PC has option to add your own music tracks, and The Sims game too.
by Quixand - 2007-09-18 05:28:14
a little bit of history

the Filipino language has a huge influence from the spanish... i believe they were under the Spanish rule for a couple hundred of years, infact it was the famous Magellan who discovered that country and wasn't he Spanish or something? please anybody from the Philippines just correct me if i'm wrong.
by Kingofdaberbz - 2007-09-18 09:49:08

sweet

Wow the ps3 can finally do something the 360 could do on day 1. Another huge win for Sony! Maybe next they will be able to download movies?
by fiberwire - 2007-09-18 16:26:02
douche.....

Spaniard is a noun, not an adjective. Spanish is an adjective and an ethnicity. (and proper noun if talking about the language) you wouldn't say "that guy is Spaniard" you would say "that guy is *A* Spaniard" you wouldn't say that guy is a Spanish" you would say "that guy is Spanish" Spaniard is the Spanish version of the English Englishman
by fiberwire - 2007-09-18 16:28:12
Idiot....

it can already download movies.... you obviously don't know much about PS3s KTHXBYE

dokko dem issyo

o__o they discovered the feature just now?? i thought its known so ............. it came with the june update of dokko demo issyo °-°"" and like some of you said, its embedded in the software but manipulating also the XMB. for anyone else, you can write messages within the game and sometimes send savegames to your friends. it features online player search(build up like XMB, so i assume its also in the system but game software utilizes it) what i want to say, its all in the system, but only if the software requests it. i am assuming this , because everything (except the game it self, only :matchmaking, custom soundtrack , messages) is in my native language. every developer should implement whats given
